is there a link to this?

i believe you are talking about the one here no one i know of is using it, but i have heard that our trannies are the same as the last gen protege and some people have used the quaiffe in those...

anyone check with them on install? last i heard, same tranny in the 6, it had to be "fit" into the setup. not that i think anyone here would just buy it and go home and "throw it in". but Mazda Motorsports listed it a while back as available, but needed minor machining if i remember correctly.

just wondering if anyone asked Corksport to confirm?

I spoke with several companys about this unit Including Corksport who said they would give me a small discount if I documented the installation (boom07) but they couldnt tell me if any modifications needed to be done. So i passed. That was several months ago.

I also talked to some mazdaspeed reps who could not give me a definate answer as to the fit which I found strange.. I decided that for this price the vendor should be able to tell me if it fits or needs modification and I would pass and let someone else be the guinea pig...

Eventualy we will be doing the Quaife swap into our 3 but the soonest that MIGHT happen would be next summer.

Sorry if that doesn't help you guys out right now but we have a drag car to fix first.

I dont really know much about all this but will it be for an auto or manual prolly stupid but ohwell?

this particular one is for the mtx

if you are looking for one for the atx, both Lentech and Level10 can help, though again, parts need to be "fit" not just installed.

"Fit" as in pressed fit. I have heard this recently and it was only if you are changing gears. But for the straight install it was still listed to need modifaction to "fit" whatever that means.
I don't see a need for it as I don't plan to autox, even then I'd really have to drive a turbo car with one to see if it was worth it.

Ide definately think an LSD would be worth it. I have a hard time keeping the wheels from spinning and wheel hopping and i dont even have a turbo, i cant imagine what its like for you.

i'm sure Az shares the same problem as me with wheel spin. but i can lay down both tires almost every time, so the LSD isn't going to help much there. As said, the biggest gain would be in a situation with turns, as on a hard turn the inside wheel would break free when you get on it.

I can attest an LSD can do wonders for autox. I'd even go as far to say it would be good for about 1.5secs on an average 60-70sec course. The advantage it gives by letting you get on the gas sooner is an awesome benefit.

In my Protege, on practice days i've been known to leave a single tire smoke trail when i'm screwing off and get in too hot and oversteer and then nail the gas to bring it back...and i usually get a nice window full of tire smoke.

I had already ordered the Quaife from CorkSport (and had not paid attention to these threads regarding the Quaife in the 3). After reading that it might require modification to fit, I did some research and called Mazdaspeed Motorsports. They told me that they can technically only sell the Quaife to racers, but the CorkSport one is their "loophole" to allow normal street use. It's the exactly same unit, and works fine, but does require some minor ginding off of bolts to get it to fit. I'm having this, and a flywheel and clutch, installed by a very good performance shop I've used for years, and have no reason to believe this will be an issue for them.

I just wanted to post an update to this. I figured others would be interested in what I found.
