puff of black smoke

well i never really did notice this because im driving the car, but the other day my friend was driving behind me and said every time i would romp on the gas pedal it will puff out some black smoke. I know our cars burn rich .. but is this normal?

I also heard some rattling noises under the hood that might be pinging noises, but could possible be because i was cruising around in lower rpms and just romp on it.

Black smoke, perfectly normal.
Try not to "floor" it when in high gears and low rpms

I shoot them every now and then.. so Im told. Catless + running rich = flames

No, it happens when I'm on WOT shifting through gears (not sure if its regular though) but it was quite evident when driving in the night.

I believe I'm running rich, as far as how rich I'm not too sure. I've given up trying to keep my exhaust tip clean so take a guess lol. I'm guessing it'll be way different from have a high flow cat in the exhaust, not too sure if you like smelling exhaust fumes all day but I think I've gotten used it.
