Since launch there have been three different disc drives used in the Xbox. The current one is flawless and nobody has any issues with it. This is actually my third Xbox. I have had one of each of the older drives before. Luckily for me, Walmart doesn't take exchanges too seriously.

omg thats what i was going to do cept have my friend do it for me because im a pussy and he did this a few times with his ps2. hopefully no walmart worker or anything is on the board (sssh)

Here you can see the 3 different drives. The one on the left was the launch consoles, then they released the 2nd one later in production, and the third and final is what you see on the right. It works to perfection and they finally fixed the issues. This is why you never buy a refurbished Xbox, because odds are somebody traded it in because of the drive not working.

i have the second one cuz i got it in christmas of that year. but damn i guess i might really have to go through with exchanging it. but i'll need to buy a memory card good for at least 7k blocks so i can save my forza file, i really dont wanna lose that. and dont wanna pay 70 bucks to have them fix my xbox.

^Don't bother. Microsoft still sells XBox's with all 3 of those drives in them. I just bought one recently in fact with the Phillips drive. The worst kind you can get is the Thompson drive simply because it doesn't read many recordable disc formats.

samsung is the best to have, mine'll read cd-r's (any kind)....

PS3 looks fuggin cool, i like how it went from cutscene to in game seamlessly (if that was in game, but it looks like it was).

Nobody's said if PS3 will be able to be a media player though, will it play vcd's or divx, or xvid or anything i throw at it?, I have a modded xbox and truthfully i don't even play games on the damn thing since i can stream tv on it or watch a xvid through a xbmsp stream or etc. etc. Seems like xbox 360 is more apt do be able to do these things and honestly i think that is the future of consoles........

ps3 will be a full fledge entertainment center, it will play all movies including blu-ray dvd movies all will be HD ready..

as i posted before in the quote microsoft. said i had to pay 70 bucks for them to fix my xbox. i just called them again, had a 20 min talk with them told them how i did some research and found out that there was 3 drives and how i have the Thompson model, said i heard they had problems and what not now they said "well Kelvin i have some good news for you, although it says here that your warranty has expired, we are extending your warranty because you are a loyal microsoft customer (all ive ever bought from them was this xbox) so now they are fixing it at no charge to me. not even shipping. they told me to ship it without any kind of microsoft/xbox markings and said its for my safety so as to not attract attention. the address also has no microsoft/xbox markings. the name of the place im sending it to is teleplan to Dock 8 "repair center". anybody know if this might be a scam. i doubt it since the number was on Xbox.com and it makes sense to not put any markings on it but i want to double check before i ship it.

in case anybody cares. i sent my xbox wed. the 16th and i got an email from usps that they recieved it Monday. right now its Thursday, and although its only been 3 days i think i should of at least gotten an email from Microsoft that they recieved it or something. i hope i get it tomoro. i mean today was the last day of school and im going to start of my summer xboxless. i was going to have a lan party too... The company i sent it to is called Teleplan. i searched online and it got me to a site that says something about it being a repair center or something of the sort. i just hope i get it back now.
