PS3 date announced at E3

Wow, here in Canada that would translate into .... a lot.
I had a hard time telling the woman I was going to buy a 360 at 499 CDN. A PS3 at 499 US, or 599 US( lets face it, you are going to want the 60gig one) is way too much for me. I'm sure many will buy it but wow.

...then again if I sell my 360.....599 won't hurt so much, and I'm sure there's a few xbox people thinking the same.

I bet you you can sell them on Ebay for at least 2k when they run out in November. Maybe more and you know what.....people will buy them.

more than that, a few 360s went for more than 6k.. one went for about 10k

Yeah and did the sale actually go through - did the person pay that money. No. Just some chump bidding it up so he could inflate prices...so when he gets 1k for it the buyer thinks they're getting a good deal. The only ones that have actually TRULY sold for over 1k were for charity type auctions.

Yet when it the Ps2 came out it was 300 bucks which at the time was way higher than previous consoles.

Shoot believe when the SNES came out it was in the 100 range which back then was a lot for a console.
The SNES came out at $199, so that was a lot considering the Genesis was out for a while before that and for less. $500 for the PS3 ain't too bad.

on top of being wayyyy overpriced...i have yet to see ANYTHING from 360,PS3 or the wii that has impressed me (it's just better graphics...so what)
Check out XBox Live Arcade. The high score tracking and s*** for old games like this adds an old school level of fun to games again. So it's more than just "better graphics".

I like my 360, this will be the year that software really makes the system shine.

just to keep things in perspective.

600 is alot of money. it will make it probably the most expensive console released (that people will go out and buy, unlike the atari and neogeo on this list).

Weren't the neo geo games like 2 or 3 hundred dollars a pop as well? I knew nobody who owned one. I had one friend who owned a turbo graphix with bonk.

I had everything turbo grafix. I had the Origianl Turbo Graphix, the TurboDuo, and the Turbo Express. Actually i still have all this stuff...blazing lazers is the s***.

I already have that, and have had that for years on my computer.

Damn the new generation of consoles (other than the Wii) is useless.

A PC is cheaper

Yes, it all costs to much now, trying to be a do everything like a PC. Shoot, for $700 I can rebuild my mid-range PC into a high end gamer which would way out do any console not to mention the other pc uses. Looks like my family is done with consoles now. We have the PS2 but don't use it often.

The entire reason consoles were ever popular was that it was cheap gaming long ago. But now they cost as much as a decent PC, and their games cost $50 too. I think the console era is over. I don't have high definition TV anyway but if I did my $140 video card can do HD. I'm also avoiding until I see if Blu-Ray or HD-DVD comes out on top.

A friend of mine saved up and got a Neo Geo and someone broke into his house and stole it.

Actual footage of my friend that day: (pissed)

Exactly what I am saying. I am going to be all over the Nintendo Wii to play the games I can't get on my PC, but for everything else I'll stick with what I have now. If I spent $600 on my computer I'd have a system that blew away what is on the 360 or PS3 and have HDDVD playback and all that s*** too. (With about 600gig of HD space while I was at it, like the average console player even knows what that is.)

EDIT: HDDVD is going to be the chosen standard, mark my words right now.

prolly will be standard in the states, but i doubt it will be the standard anywhere else.. especially in the area around japan
i think europe will be half and half on it..

RICKMAN PREDICTS:
- The Nintendo Wii will cost $199-$299 at launch (most likely $199)
- Nintendo will clean house with Sony & Microsoft this round.
- Nintendo will be the only company to make money on the hardware
- Wii games will stay $50 or less, while PS3 & 360 Games all become $60+
- Nintendo will have their distribution figured out well before launch.

Sony & Microsoft are trying to be the "HUB" of your home theatre while Nintendo is concentrating on putting out a kick ass video game console.

I don't know about you, but I have 4 DVD players (and only 2 TV's) in my house including the Xbox & PS2, I don't need my systems to play DVD's... that's what my DVD player is for.

Cost of production on the 360 is around $700/unit, the PS3 will be $800+/unit. Sony & MS have really botched it this time.

Sony loves and I mean LOVES proprietary media formats, and guess what, they always fail to market them anywhere in the world. There's not going to be a half on or half off, there's going to be one format chosen by consumers and no way in hell it's going to be a Sony backed format.
