Proud New owner 09 Sport Pearl White MS3

lower resale = happy buyers..

how many do they produce a year, 4000? I dont think that will make a big change on resale. Plus I'm not looking to sell my car anytime soon, I just hit 4000 miles today.

i don't give two s**** about the aftermarket for our car. there is still a ton of s*** in the works from all of the big players and there seem to be new places to purchase bolt ons everyday.
i'm hardly worried about the aftermarket.
i don't really care about resale value either. i'm not getting rid of this car anytime soon.
i care about it being rare...
my understanding of production numbers have been different for the three releases.

2007 - 5000
2008 - ?
2008.5 - ?
2009 - zero b****, but they ****** that up

**** i hate Mazda now.
I only bought this s*** thinking it would be rare, now since they will be everywhere i should just go get the 09 wrx s***.

(fu)MAZDA

Btw. very nice color i hope you enjoy

Not as rare = lower resale.

you guys who say this, lol. you're talking like this car is a porche or ferrari or has a chance to be a classic. considering the next MS3 will most likely be based on the euro Focus ST or RS engine (around 300hp + the toque to match), this car is just for the moment. Not to mention your MS3 doesn't look that much different from a typical normal 3.

it's not like Mazda is pumping out 10's of thousands of these cars...maybe a couple thousand at most so whatever resale it has, it's not going to drop it that much.

it's a $25k car, what type of resale value did you expect these to hold? lol.

bigger aftermarket (only happens with more cars on the road) >>>>>> resale. at least for this class of car.

+1 million.

It's all about the money

+1 million.

My guess is that the newest Speed was selling better than expected and Mazda realized they could bring in a littel more profit. Can't blame a company for wanting to make money can you?

As I remeber every other Speed didn't sell that well. The Speed 3 hit the bullseye for performance and practicality at a great price so it's no surprising that it was a big success.

I find it funny that some of you hate Mazda for selling more. I suppose you would be happy to see Mazda fold becasue they didn't show good business sense rather than do the smart business thing and sell a great product. It's not like their stuffing crap down peoples throats like so many of those rebadged cars that sell through on an anemic engine and looks alone.

More aftermarket parts.....here we come! Oh yeah btw I wish I waited and got a white one but who knew that they were going to come out with more! (uhm)

darn, i think i will go buy a Yugo--those are really RARE!! lots of aftermarket support too. (gorilla glue, duct tape, galvanized wire, WD-40, spit.) life is good when you are a MORON!!

Inside the Door jam says July 08 and its production number on VIN says 0776. VIN also says year 2009 in the 10th position

thanks for the reply.
guess i'll have a 08.5 then as it was built on June 6th. Since I live in Germany it'll be one more month till it gets here but on monday I'm going to see the VIN # and will also ask.

Thanks again

i'd expect these to have a better residual, percentage wise vs. purchase price, than a regular 3. I don't think that anyone on here in particular is going as far as you are saying, but there is a large span inbetween a kia and a ferrari in terms of residual value and that is what many of the owners of these cars are banking on.

you have to admit that within certain circles a MSP will yield a higher percentage residual value than a non-turbo protege, right?

Same goes for the MS3, but in an even larger scale because of the evolution of the internet (increased awareness) and of course the very high performance of this car for the price.

for me, it matters most because of the frequency in which i update cars. after i pay them off for about two years, with the term length i use, i like to be able to trade them into my broker and have the value exceed the payout by atleast a couple grand, therefore creating a lower payment for me with the next car. That doesn't happen with many, many new cars, so i pick what i buy carefully. I've done it with several at this point, and the two current cars i have, the '07 Si, and this MS3, hopefully should be able to put me in the same position as i've always been in.

If you cost average over the span of several cars, it makes for a pretty low payment per car, and, on top of that, you always are in a new ride. It's almost like leasing, but w/o the mileage restrictions and other BS.

the most important thing to realize is that these cars provide the most return on investment in the fun department, in the price range, without question. so, that has to be factored in somehow, despite the arbitrary nature of such a factor.

re: your comment about the next version...do you know how much that car will be? The current STI has set a precedent. The high cost of the new unit will probably increase the viability of the current platform for alot of people, atleast regarding their pocketbook, and in term held uphold the value.

Again, these aren't investments necessarily, but you have to try to make financial sense of big purchases like a car, and maximizing your dollar can be pretty important, along with maximizing the fun and useability factor.

I think these cars will just be like the Shelby edition dodges in the 80's. They dont sell for too much more then the non Shelby editions in similar condition. Those cars were even signed by Carroll Shelby, had lower production quantities, and had the build number in the dash.
