More on the road = bigger aftermarket
no?
no?
My sheet says 18 mpg city, wonder why the highway went down.....?
Not as rare = lower resale.
you guys who say this, lol. you're talking like this car is a porche or ferrari or has a chance to be a classic. considering the next MS3 will most likely be based on the euro Focus ST or RS engine (around 300hp + the toque to match), this car is just for the moment. Not to mention your MS3 doesn't look that much different from a typical normal 3.
it's not like Mazda is pumping out 10's of thousands of these cars...maybe a couple thousand at most so whatever resale it has, it's not going to drop it that much.
it's a $25k car, what type of resale value did you expect these to hold? lol.
bigger aftermarket (only happens with more cars on the road) >>>>>> resale. at least for this class of car.
+1 million.
i was hoping it would keep its resale value like the vw r32 did![]()

i'd expect these to have a better residual, percentage wise vs. purchase price, than a regular 3. I don't think that anyone on here in particular is going as far as you are saying, but there is a large span inbetween a kia and a ferrari in terms of residual value and that is what many of the owners of these cars are banking on.
you have to admit that within certain circles a MSP will yield a higher percentage residual value than a non-turbo protege, right?
Same goes for the MS3, but in an even larger scale because of the evolution of the internet (increased awareness) and of course the very high performance of this car for the price.
for me, it matters most because of the frequency in which i update cars. after i pay them off for about two years, with the term length i use, i like to be able to trade them into my broker and have the value exceed the payout by atleast a couple grand, therefore creating a lower payment for me with the next car. That doesn't happen with many, many new cars, so i pick what i buy carefully. I've done it with several at this point, and the two current cars i have, the '07 Si, and this MS3, hopefully should be able to put me in the same position as i've always been in.
If you cost average over the span of several cars, it makes for a pretty low payment per car, and, on top of that, you always are in a new ride. It's almost like leasing, but w/o the mileage restrictions and other BS.
the most important thing to realize is that these cars provide the most return on investment in the fun department, in the price range, without question. so, that has to be factored in somehow, despite the arbitrary nature of such a factor.
re: your comment about the next version...do you know how much that car will be? The current STI has set a precedent. The high cost of the new unit will probably increase the viability of the current platform for alot of people, atleast regarding their pocketbook, and in term held uphold the value.
Again, these aren't investments necessarily, but you have to try to make financial sense of big purchases like a car, and maximizing your dollar can be pretty important, along with maximizing the fun and useability factor.
