Protege5 Timing Issues

Good Evening,
I'm sure this question has been asked. I couldn't find any info on timing my distributorless 2002 P5. I replaced the timing belt and WP, put everything back together WOUT any problems. Fired rt. Up. Seems to run fine. Although lately I've been hearing some pinging. I checked timing w a gun and it was at 3 o clock compared to the timing pointer. Cannot figure out how to get it to the 10 degrees it needs to be at. Can anyone please point me in the rt direction?? The book says nothing. Thank you so much

So you're saying the crank and cams are out of time? Well as stock, none of it is adjustable. You could add in adjustable cam gears/sprockets to correct the timing and adjust on the fly easier, or you could rip it apart and re-time it properly. As long as you know that the timing is the issue.

Otherwise with a ping, I'd look to see if higher octane fuel fixes it 1st.
