you see, here is the thing...

the stock p5, looks like a stock compact wagon with a body kit and some wheels that although are only 16", look big and sporty.

the mazda3, looks like the stock compact wagon, period. like the p5 is the end result of tweaking and tuning and tricking out the stock wagon, whereas the mazda3 we have seen seems like the starting point of the next gen.

do i make any sense here?

when i first saw the p5, and even to this day when i see em, i cant believe all that crap is standard stock, like you cannot get a car without it all. it looks like mazda took this ordinary looking compact wagon, and threw a body kit and some sporty wheels on it to make it look awesome. But they didnt, there is no non-awesome looking version of the p5. so to me this mazda3 seems like it is that basic wagon, waiting for mazda to throw all the cool stuff on it, to make it what the p5 was.

so it almost seems unfair to compare the p5 to the mazda 3, just cuz the p5 was the pimp chit, and from the looks of the mazda3, its gonna start off as a normal compact wagon and then have a pimp chit version available(i assume)....

so anyhow, i voted for p5, but am eager to see a mazdaspeed version of the 3

I totally agree with you slug! that is my exact thoughts on this subject. I love my p5, but I definitely see potential in the 3

The interior to the 3 is miles ahead of the p5.....gotta love how they've borrowed from the RX8:cool:

i dont remember much of what the interior looks like on the 3 and im too lazy to go look right now, but i kinda done like the rx-8/mazda3 steering wheel

I definatly like the ready to go, off the shelf look of my P5. I didn't want to buy a new car, then spend money on rims, ground effects, and other stuff. If they do the same to the 3, I agree it will be comparable, but right now, I love my 5!

P5. Although with all the changes coming in automobile design, our look is going to be outdated pretty soon. :(

it will also have the 2.3l with aprox 160hp. i also read somewhere about 200+hp turbo 2.3l. I still take the p5 looks anyday. My boy has a dark blue 2003.5 on stock chrome. it looks damn good

If you look at some of thoses threads that have pix of the ads for the Sport 20 in Japan, you see that there it does come in different trims with many different interior and engine options.

I also was attracted to the fact that the P5 seemed pretty hooked up to start. That's why I'm so attracted to the MSP! Thinking about trading in.:p

The Bottom line is the Mazda3 is a Mazda6/Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix blend which does not do justice to what the Pro5 started. There is simply no way to compare the two. Off the lot the Pro5 increases your pulse. The Mazda3 makes me want to go grocery shopping.

The Matrix/Vibe along with the Assteck will be out-dated. IMO, the P5 body style will hold out for a long time. It has smooth lines and a strong stance...while not being too over the edge.

Just like my 87 Cougar. I got a compliment a few years back from a toll booth operator. I had washed it the weekend before and he asked what year it was. When I told him 87 he said it looked like it should be a 97. It was bone stock except for tinted windows and headlight covers. The car's lines were refined.

Some car styles are timeless...(in a good way, I'm not talking about the Crown Vic that stayed the same for 10 years).

god, i thought i was the only one who didnt care for it. it seems like its too soft, i like the angular sharp lines of the p5, not that bulgy soft fat crap on the 3, P5 FOREVER

I actually like (most) of the looks of the M3. The front end view is almost like the MP5 but has more of the M6 hood lines and I also like the side rear fender flairs ---

But I'm not crazy about the way the side window and pillar resemble the Vibe and the Nissan Murano (which I actully do like)

... and I'm also worried about the fact that the M3 could also start to share the Focus's past unreliable repair/recall history ...

:(

But in my dreams, maybe Mazda could add more of a glass window design (the way the MP5 is or like the new Lexus RX330) to help with more visibility and less blind spots ... and do a little more to the rear window spoiler ... to make it look more sportier!

:)
