Protege5 Headlight Adjustment

Hi,

My left headlight burned, after replacement I notice that my headlight is pointing down... First time I own a car, I never adjust it. Can anyone tell me how to adjust the headlight? Can I do it myself and do I need any tool to do it?

Thanks

ha, I just today had the same experience. I used the same bulbs as last time, but they seem to be pointing down. I turned them on with one new and one working old in, and the new seemed much brighter, but down, the old dimmer, but projecting farther. Very odd. Like I said, the same brand/model bulbs.

Double check to see if the bulb is seated properly. If it is, then proceed to aim it by using the aiming adjustment screw behind the headlight. Very easy to do.

^^^ Yup. There's a 10mm bolt on the back of the headlight housing. If I remember correctly, clockwise is higher, counterclockwise will lower the beam. I usually pull up about 8feet from my garage door with my headlights on si I can see the adjustment a bit easier. And I know when I had Silverstars in my P5 they were really tough to get the metal tab seated int he plastic headlight housing so that might be throwing it off too.

Thanks for the explanation, It's cold outside and now I don't even have to bring all my wrenches, just the 10mm!

this pic has come in handy many times... and this topic has been covered just as many.

I had exactly the same problem when i put my HIDs in. Its not seated properly trust me. get a flashlight and from the front of the light look inside from an angle so you can see past the bulb gaurd. You should be able to see from the front if the bulb is totaly seated in the circular opening. I found mine was not and was causing it to shine at a bad angle.

i am having the same issue with mine except i changed the bulbs thinking it was bad bulbs causing the lack of light being thrown. i put in piaa extreme white plus bulbs and i was still getting a severe lack of light being thrown out. the only thing this did was show me that the lights appear to be pointing straight down. this post should help me out greatly

Old Thread, new response...
I recently purchased a P5 ... and converted all the bulbs to LED.
Noticed the Drivers headlight pointed at the ground.
Checked, double checked, triple checked ... all looks good.

Google searched, and found THIS thread.

I can confirm that to RAISE the headlight beam, you need to turn the adjustment screw COUNTERCLOCKWISE ... and you'll have to turn it SEVERAL complete rotations to see any results.
