Protege5: Harder, not Smarter!

Man, if you get a 2003.5 MSP lip, make a mold, and start making fiberglass/CF lips, you could make some bank!

If anyone has one sitting around to send me, I could mold it up and send it back :)

I got my Megasquirt built to a basic function, its plugged into my laptop and runs. Now I need to configure the ignition and junk, oh my. Did I ever mention I hate electronics.

My dad was really impressed with the latest hatch I built so he wants me to make his MS3 one now. :)

Also, just something funny, I take the car down to about 4-5 shows every summer (yes actually entering) no I've never won anything but the amount of people going going ":O makes it all worth it. I get all the old time hot rodders talking about the fiberglassing and all the honda guys are going wow this Subaru things light, I got the ecomilers going wow thats alot of mileage.

And of course the girls that peer into it and exclaim "wow I would never ride in this!"

^ good stuff. Good luck finding a MSP lip. They are like gold around here and once someone gets their hands on it, they wont let go. I'm so glad I landed one. If you were closer I would let you use it. Seriously though....your kids would be set till college if you started making those. That's how wanted they are

What in the hell lol

I will look into this...*scratches head*

Is it for the newest year lip...or...just msp lips in general?

Alright...got the megasquirt parts thrown all over the dining room table. Basic wiring it together and works. Deciding on how to do the ignition. I'm thinking dual MSD ignition boxes unless I can find a better deal for a twin channel box somewhere. This ignition setup is gonna be gross. > : )

Probably just gonna wire it up to route through the on-board circuitry right now, get it on the car, get it running.

Then once I have more or less figured how it all works, engine/tranny rebuild, add the turbo and the ignition boxes.

Or so thats the plan as of now. 20 degree sparking is sweeeeetttttt

the last year of MSP's had this lip that fit onto the front bumper. I'll show you my car with and without the lip

Normal bumper with P5 fog lights (I have a MSP bumper. The only difference between the Protege5 and the MSP bumper are the side marker lights)

MSP Lip (wraps around the front bumper giving a curved front, fills Fog holes and has option fog delete grills)

Yes! The 2003 MSP didn't have it...the 2003.5 did. So, only a handful of MSPs were made. SO few were made that they all of an ID number. An even smaller handful of those cars had this lip

^^Depending on how that mirror block off plate goes you think you could do a mold for them. I've been looking but to no avail

Yes I definitely can. I couldn't find a single one anywhere for sale which is why I made my own. I'm still trying to decide the best way to attach the part onto the car before I make the mold though. The shape is correct right now, I could mold that up, but you would have to find a way to attach it to the door. Right now I'm using the stock stud assembly from the original mirrors I cut out.

Which obviously wont work if I'm gonna make some for other people.

In other news...I just sprayed down the gel coats for the new hood mold and the gas tank cover mold with my new gelcoat spray gun. HEAVEN. I love this thing!

Gel coat grenadeeeee

I keep my steering wheel inside(or my backpack at school) whenever I park it...goodluck trying to steal it without that. I also take my stereo with me. (boom01)

Just like everyone elses closets I'm sure.

And theirs so much more to go (rolleyes)

Hood after 2 heavy layers layed up over the skim coat. Damn hoods are easy...I'll have a new hood for my car by the end of the weekend at this rate. About 89 times easier than making a hatch, lol.

"bought" one of these off ebay if no-one outbids me...Yes...I'm looking at you guys.

Gas cover mold after 2 layers of glass.

Hood after first "skim" glass layer. I sand it down after where the glass bunches up before more coats.

3 layers of carbon weave.

Very fun to work with, VERY hard to cut and VERY hard to keep the strands from parting on the piece.

I only used 30 grams of resin for this entire piece...this thing is gonna be crazy strong.
