Protege Weight Reduction

Oh, good point. My 17x7.5" Kazera KZ-B's with 215/45/17 Hankook RS2-212's weight 44 lbs as a package.

Tomorrow, I may bring one of my stock racing harts with 215/45/17 Falken Ziex 512's to get a baseline weight on that...

Hmm... probably not a whole lot of difference there. Those tires probably weigh, what, ~22lbs a piece? I figured those rims would be lighter. You should get some Kosei K1-TS... 14lbs a piece in 17x7 form! Man I wish I would have kept those wheels, I liked 'em a lot. Oh well, I think going back to 16s for daily will look nicer.

Okay, here's how it shook out.

Stock front struts (spring and shocks) were 20 lbs apiece

Stock rear struts (springs and shocks) were 17 lbs apiece.

Total STOCK suspension weight was 74 lbs

K-Sports were 12 lbs per corner front AND rear

Total K-Sport weight was 48 lbs

Total weight savings was 26 lbs

All weights were done on 1 scale of a 4 scale digital corner balancing kit, so it was accurate. I'll have access to pics we took later, if anyone really wants to see them.

Thanks, I added them to the list.

What about cutting the excess off of the hundreds of bolts and screws in the car.
My dad did that once on his fiat race car and he took off close to 20lbs without removing anything else.

ahh how bout no. this is still a daily driver. i was gonna tear up some sound deadening under the carpet and pull some stuff off the car i dont need

The msp has sound deadening.......lol.
Have you ever looked under the carpet, there's padding then the deadening material covers maybe 15% of the car. Atleast that's what I saw and the sounds tell me the same.

first off Im subbing, cause this is a really good topic, And secondly, my weight reduction would be losing 30lbs and and getting back down to 250lbs. Granted I am 6"4 but none the less its free.

Good Plan. I've also been hitting the gym, but I suspect I won't be losing any more weight. I'm 6'2" and 193 lbs. I only have a couple pounds to lose and they will most likely be replaced with muscle. Luckily, in Time Trials the car is weighed with the driver.

Not a super accurate scale but:

For us NA guys:
wehn i swapped out my stock exhaust mani for an OBX header it saved me right around 20-21lbs.

Stock exhaust manifold - 29lbs

OBX header - 8-9lbs

I was on 3si forums and found this little tip which has also made it into my sig:

I have an upside down cat on my roof and a butterside up piece of toast under the car, since we all know cats always land on their feet and toast always lands butterside down, the car is now light as a feather due to antigravity
