Protege Weight Reduction

dunno what that's all about. Go weigh it and you'll see something different.

GVWR- Gross Vehicle Weight r-something. Similar to your paycheck, your gross income is what you make before taxes - the gross vehicle weight is the total amount of weight the car is rated for to be safely operated. So basically you can load up your car with about 1000 pounds of crap (people, luggage, landscape bricks, fertilizer.....) and the car should still be safe to operate.

thx guys :) lol yeah i use to go like wtf 3600 mayn thats heavy, and for a sec i got discouraged from continuing moding her, but now its all good hah i will be trying to do some weight reduction in the future.....

i'd be so worried that i couldn't remember how to put the parts back in.

I labeled the wiring harness and I have to make my own mounts on the roll cage for the dash. Other than that nothing is going back in so its nice and easy.

back again with another question, and again a noob ?s
the curb weight of the car is 2690, so that means with the car as is (full tank of gas, coolant, oil, fluids) or is it 2690+
never fully understood the meaning of "curb weight" (i do understand the "dry weight")

thx

Curb weight is generally the weight of the car with fluids.

For some motivation: With the full cage, my car now weighs 2350 so there is plent to take out of it. With an LX you could probably get down around 2250.

damn, thats awesome!! with cf fenders/trunk etc that can be brought down even more...
still not gonna do any major reduction until i get new dd, than i'll go as far as i can (anyway she's in the shop now)

keep it up, and keep us posted :D

any idea how much power steering removal would weigh?
Pump, hoses and fluid probably 5 or 6 pounds. The reason most people who do remove the PS do it for the reduction of drag on the engine more than the weight. On a roadcourse you are turning a lot at the same time you are trying to accellerate which means the drag from the pump is hurting a lot more than just the standard loss you would see at idle. I haven't tried it without PS yet to know how it feels. My car won't see the road any more so I will probably do some more weight reduction this winter and the PS may be one of the things I try.

This thread inspired me to weigh my P5..... Came out to 2780lbs.....

Sub. Awesome thread
