I'm taking polls of this car to see reliability (just for my own sake).

It'd be interesting to see the results after a week or two :)

LOL! All systems are go after 3 weeks on ANY car. :D
I picked excellant... because other than the hatchback noise and the paint wearing away on the center console, (which is carbon fiber underneath anyways.. tempted to strip the PAINT) The car is awesome... couldnt ask for a better one :)

Mazdas tend to be very reliable. My sister has my dads old 92 protege 120,000 NO major repairs, still orig clutch AND tranny! :)

I was looking in the Consumer Reports used car guide and 2002 Protegs got all top marks. Highly recommended by them. As for me 22,000mi and no problems.

You dont know what reliable is my friend. My best friends mom has a '94 LX with 260 grand on it and besides my friend and his dad taking the top end of the engine apart and doing ind of an at home port and polish and just getting all the gunk out about a year ago, the car has never given them a lick of trouble. That's partially why I bought my P5.

For anyone who hasn't looked at what CR has to say about the Proteg, you really should check it out. I don't have the April handy right now, but they do RAVE about the reliability of the vehicle (which, by the way, for the last couple of years has been higher than Civic or Corolla -- a fact I can't believe Mazda hasn't touted!)

You may have to be a a subscriber to access this, but check out the overview report of the Proteg5 at CR's Web site...

Got 6,100 miles on mine, it's doing good. Couple little squeaks in the front suspension. The motor mounts and electrical system are my only real peeves with this car. A ground wire kit and some inserts will fix those.

At 46K my '01 ES didn't have any problems besides the creaks and moans from the suspension.

had my msp for about three months (6,500 miles), had a few minor problems (rust on rotors, blown sub). Still love my msp though

2 years / 40000km

Ii have a wierd problem with my car when i drive it after its been parked for more than 1 day and it has been cold/rainny. ( Happens when i shift but the conditions for it to happen are exrtemely difficult to reproduce ). They still havnt found the problem at the always so competent dealer... another problem i have learned to live with because it almost never happens.

Also the windshield keeps cracking due to stress or extremelly small rocks hitting it.

Plastic under the car that protects various stuff keeps cracking during winter. Too fragile for the harsh quebec climate me thinks.

And well the clunk and plunk and flunk and thunk noises comming out of my suspension but i live with that as well. Its actually fun to scare the s*** out of pedestrians on a speedbump when its cold. Sounds like World War 3.

Still love my MP3 tough :)
