prosport boost gauge.

I need some help putting the gauge in. i really am not that best at wiring, but i can do car stereos no prob so this shouldn't be that hard. i tried using the autometer boost gauge how-to but the gauges are different and i have a bunch of different parts. the main prob that I'm having is understanding which wires to tap. and also the order to which the stuff that came with the gauge goes. here's some pics of all that came with.

The gauge

The back of the gauge

Obviously this plugs into the gauge

the other end of the wires

This module

This, I'M assuming Filter

And all the crap i wont be using

And here is the gauge pod i will be using

Now the wires coming out from the gauge are RED, BLACK, WHITE, GREEN, and ORANGE.

The module has two wires coming out, RED and WHITE, which I'm assuming will be connected to the RED and WHITE from the back of the gauge.

Now where do the other wires need to go? i would like them to come on when my gauges come on, and to dim with the gauges.

Also i'm assuming that the filter thing goes in line between the Module and where the T fitting is at the manifold.

I would really appreciate help thanks in advanced.

the instructions should say which wire is power, ground, and which 2 are signal (I'd bet you're right, they're color matched. You'll have to cut a couple sections of vac hose to hook up the filter and sender, then wire the sender to the dash location. Then you'll have to find suitable power and ground to connect the other 2 wires to. I do not believe you'll be able to use the dimmer, as from what I can see, there is not a seperate illumination circuit.

other than that, pop off the top of your column (drop it all the way down and its very easy)... and start puttin it all together.

actually now that I look, there may be an illumination circuit there... either that or its a constant power, and a switched power.... the manual should say though.

well according to the instructions, The black is engine ground, Green is boost sensor, Red is to ignition switch, Orange and white just say note next to them. thats coming off the gauge. on the "boost sensor" (im assuming Module) it says it is suposed to have a Blck-Engine ground, Red- ignition switch, and a green-Connect to green wire on the gauge. but there is only a red and white wire on the module. which is where i get lost.

damn. well, that said, I honestly don't know, it sounds like the sender and gauge don't match the instructions they gave you.

what would you suggest doing?

i just posted something in the protege garage sectin. maybe he can help figuring he is the one i ordered it from.

I just tried diagraming out what I would try in your position, and I got nothing. Nothing that makes sense anyhow.

So, I would wait to hear from someone else who has put that gauge on an MSP. I'm sure there will be one along soon!

the colored wires white and orange determine what color your gauge will light up. using the white wire will make the gauge light up bright white, the orange wire will light up red/amber.

is there a way to have it light up white during the day(when the lights are off) and amber at night? it should be just taping into different wires. thanks for the insite

When i installed my prosport boost gauge.. i was told that if you tap the white wire into a wire that sees power when the key is turned on, that the gauge will light up white... then if you tap the orange wire to a wire that sees power ONLY when the lights or foglights are turned on, then the gauge will switch to amber when you turn your lights on. You would have to ask someone else as to which wires would be best to tap into as my gauge just stays amber 24/7

a mechanical would be much easier to insatall since your vacum line would go straight in the gauge. they should both work the same though

I have a prosport digital gauge. Not sure if the wires are the same but heres what I did.

Your sender unit should have 3 wires. Red, black, white

Red is power, black is ground, white is the sender wire that you connect to the green sender wire from your gauge.

Your gauge should have Red, Black, Green, (1 or 2 other colors)

Red is power, black is ground, green you connect to white sender from sender unit. The 2 color are responsible for gauge color changing when lights are on / off.

If you don't feel like dealing with the color changing crap with lights on / off then just wire all of them so its illuminated all the time.

Alright so we've got wiring figured out but I was just wondering where everyone runs the wires through the firewall. Also, which vacuum line do you guys T off of for the boost senson. If you could show pics, that's be great.

well my wiring is not figured out. On the sending unit there is only a RED and WHITE. I'm just assuming that they go to the RED and WHITE wires on the back of the gauge. and that leaves me with a BLACK, ORANGE and a GREEN coming out of the back of the gauge. and maybe the WHITE to WHITE and the RED to RED is not right IDK. i just really want to get things clarified. thanks
