Prospective owner- Ipod/AUX question

Hi all,

I'm very close to buying the 2011 GT but have a question regarding Ipod integration and the aux port. I'm looking to get the nav, moonroof, and sirius satellite radio option. From what i've read on the forum, my understanding is that the AUX port will not work with an Ipod. Is this statement correct? This would be a huge deal breaker for me as i use my Ipod heavily in my current car.

Second, i also understand that if i want to see the song information on the nav screen, i need to purchase the Ipod integration kit and have it installed (is there an option that includes this?). Is this correct as well?

You may like to consider stay away from Nav. It really Sucks. Check on the threads and you will see details. Among others:
- you can NOT choose POIs or address while driving in the CX9. You only can choose by usiong voice commands from a very limmited set of preset destinations (only 6)
- The list of POIs is barely 2M in CX9, get a Garmin and you will get AT LEAST 5 millions
- You may get better voice command recognition in Garmin 39xx Series.
- you will hear the Street names in your garmin, which you don't in the CX9 nav

Sirius is ok, but the antena could be better. It have worst reception than what I have received side to side from my VW Tiguan.

Aux Port, work fine with my Zune and also my iPOD. I have used 2 types of cables (bottom to Jack or Jack to Jack) and both worked for me. If you use a jack plug to the Aux Port, you will not be able to control the ipod from the wheel and you will see no Track details on the screen.

You may like to try also a Bluetooth transmiter to transmit from your ipod to the radio (if it does not have Bluetooth). This way you will be able to move fwd and backward, but will not see the track number or details on the any of the screens of the car

It seems that you can ask to the dealer to install the ipod integration kit for you, but from what I have read here, it is a very expensive choice (installed) for what you receive

the aux jack is inside the center console, lift the lid. You just need a 3.5mm male to male cord, which they sell at just about every store now. One end plugs into your ipod headphone jack, the other into your car. I use a 6ft cable. This works fine for me. Mazda states that you get electrical noise if using the ipod while plugging it into the cig power plug. This is not the case for me using either the front cig. outlet or the one in the center console, and I have used a Monster power adapter and a usb flimsy cable plugged into a cig-usb adapter thingy. I have never experienced any electrical noise, so the 3.5mm cable is all that I need...I don't need the "ipod kit"

Regarding the nav... Yes its very out of date design is somewhat a bummer, but hey, still get touch screen radio, a cool display that slides down and opens up that you can impress all your buddies with, and not sure what they have in it now, 6 disc or not, I know they went back and forth twice with 6 disc and single disc. Get the Bose though. Even though the factory sets the low frequency cutoff too low, in my opinion, it is still a good system.

Edit: fyi, the sound quality of using a 3.5mm cord vs. sound through an actual usb kit is exactly the same, in my humble opinion. There is no signal loss or distortion. (however the sound is affected by the equalizer on the ipod, and the CX-9 seems to be very sensitive to what equalizer settings you have the ipod on. I find I have to use "classical" or "rock" or "bass booster" setting on my ipod, which increases both bass and treble and reduces mids.

Thanks guys for the reply. What i'm still not understanding is whether the ipod will work with the AUX port if i do purchase the NAV. I read other threads that stated that if you buy the CX-9 with the NAV, that even if you plug in an ipod into the AUX port it will not work.

I guess the best way to confirm is to take my ipod with the cable to the dealer and test it to make sure.

That's bull. I have nav&3.5mm jack in the center console, I don't think that has changed for the later models.
