Project QUIET

dude.. holy s***! I give you props... at the same time, seems like WAY too much work for me. I bought this car knowing full well that there wouldn't be a ton of sound-insolation or what not. Afterall, it's basically an economy car. Since there's always SOMETHING blastin through the speakers... I could really care less. I guess once I'm an old fart and enjoy the peace and quiet.. I'll want a nice cushy car that's so quiet... I basically fall asleep while driving. Hmm... second thought, I hope that day never comes. I'll be the 80 yr old with subs in the trunk of his caddy.

Actually it works two fold. It quiets down road noise and increases audio quality in a major way. Think of it this way, the P5 is basically a tin can and audio simply rattles inside of it. With what I did it completely deadened that sound. I had nice tight bass response and smooth mids/highs. Plus I did not need to turn up the volume that extra notch to compete with road noise.

You're the man for keeping those pics alive and going. Also much props to you for going through the hassle of this. I just recently put in my custom setup of subs as of today and there is so much rattle in the door panels, it drives me nuts!

After reading this I have got to do this soon. My only fear like you said was remembering where everything goes back in place. Just taking off the kick panels, the seatbelt panels in the middle , and the panels in the back of the hatch were a pain enough for me to run the wires lol. If I were to do this, then I should probably go the whole mile with it and completely remove everything inside just like you have done? I can't imagine trying to fit back in my sub box on the side again, but I'll do it to get rid of that rattle. Any other suggestions before I tackle this project is more than welcome :).

Thx bro. Best course of action is to put parts in seperate containers and maybe label them if need be.

...but I'll do it to get rid of that rattle. .
Get some AWR 95 durometer front + rear motor mounts with side inserts.... It'll get rid of that rattle. (first)

Forgot about those motor mounts. Yeah that could have definitely been making a lot of the rattle as well. I've always had a permanent rattle at startup from the idle so maybe that will be gone as well. That's another thing on the list to get :). I'll still be tackling this project down because as altspace said earlier, the road noise when cruising on the interstate is pretty loud actually. Also, can't complain about better bass hits (hear ya).

Just my 2cents--- But this was the best first Mod that I did after buying my P5 in 03.... Road Noise was cut in half if not more-- and I could crank the radio, watch the roof flex but not really hear it until you opened the doors---

I highly recommend :)

Oh ya,, it was spendy-- If i remember right, I had about $700 bucks in materials, but now adays-- that same material costs half that. I used propbly more than needed only because of the stereo. If I was going just after road noise-- then I would have used more padding instead of Dampening.

700 what!? I purchased a 60sq.ft. roll of eDead and all the carpet matting for $100, and I only used 30sq.ft. of the eDead.

Ya-- Unfortunitly I had bought the stuff before I ever learned in this Forum about other alternatives-- I definantly could have saved more my using Rammat or eDead.. Doh!! Oh the power of search ( I was a noob ) lol

I used what I did to mat the whole car-- even the roof, inside the wing, and liscence plate -- the only thing that would rattle was the windshield wipers and sun roof.

Bump.

Removing the carpet- is it fairly easy? Looks fairly easy. I'm strongly considering getting some eDead paint on stuff and painting the entire floor pan- especially the firewall and exhaust tunnel. Maybe some of that foam padding like you got too.

It's easy. A little time consuming....but overall not difficult.

I agree with dave45090, very time comsuming but easy and well worth it in the end-- below is a 76 Trans Am that I helped do last weekend, took about 10hr to clean and Dynamat everything and build the box
