Project QUIET

it was a decent product from what i heard, but after reading some of his posts, most of the competitors boycotted him and spread the word not to buy from him.

i much prefer dealing with rick, from raamaudio. best customer service around. and 62.5 sq ft of the BXT for less than $110 shipped is good enough for me.

most of those products if you use enough of it, will work its all in the installation and tackling the worst areas first.

x amount of eDead + carpet padding = $100

yo altspace

thank you for the link to your photos. it s inspired me to do the same and i would like to know how much eDead was used (i.e. square feet/sheet) for the job. also how much carpet padding was used as well. did you really get all that material for $100? finally, what kind of beer was used for the project?

Your welcome. I purchased 60 sq/ft. but only used 30 of it in my install. I was going to use more, but instead I thought I would use it for my other car. I believe I used about a 7'x5' piece of padding. I simply measured the distance from the front footwells to the back and added some extra. I felt, or rather heard a big noticable difference in my car after. However, there is almost nothing you can do to get rid of muffler drone. I think this is in partial due to the fact that the P5 is a hatchback. Any method or type of alcohol consumption may be used. Just don't drive after too much... ;-)

Yes, any type of "foam" material will hold in moisture at some point no matter where your geographical location is.

ensolite from raamaudio is a closed cell foam, so it does not hold moisture(cool) it might seem expensive at about $10 per linear yard, but you are getting a piece that is 56" wide, rather than 36", like most carpet padding. plus it's only 1/8" thick, where most carpet padding is substantially thicker. i'm going to do some measurement while driving down the road, comparing 1/2" thick jute padding to ensolite.

sounds like i could use this, when i did my car all i did was mat it, i might go back and put down some carpet pads, and this sounds interesting....

yeah, i'm interested to see how well the ensolite works compared to the jute carpet padding, which is half the cost, but 4 times thicker.

You stalking me again Dan? I'm gonna have to come over there and open up a can of beans on you.

No prob, thought others would be interested in the project still. I reposted all the images.

I did this project a few months ago. Used Raammat and Rick over there is a class act and sells a good product for a good price. He sent detailed instructions with pictures for the p5. I used coat hanger wire to span the gaps in the door with some screens rather than the self tapping screws he suggested. held the screens a whole lot better I thought.

I still need some insulation for my trunk and I am having a hard time finding something similar to ensolite. The carpet stores have a great accoustical padding that I would like but they never sell it in small quantaties. Need to go by one day when they have some scrap.

Car: 2003.5 Mazda Protege 5
Audio: Stock 7 speaker CD sound system w/ optional tire subwoofer

In search of better audio resonance and a smoother ride I began the journey of stripping out the inside of my car.

Wish the link still worked. I'm trying to figure out how to pull all the carpet up from around the front/center dash area to run RCA cables to my amps. ryan

(to thread) hello old friend *sniff*

but seriously, i was really shocked by how little edead you used, alt. And you mentioned something about finding (or looking for) vibrations? Did you just tap on the panels to find the bad spots or what? I just want to know if focusing on the problematic spots worked well for you.

Also, excluding the trunk/hatch area, what were the worst spots in your p5? It seems like the sound comes from everywhere in mine.

No need to cover the entire car. I used 30sq/ft. The eDead controls acoustic vibrations whereas the carpet matting reduces audio resonance. Wheel well areas pass the most noise.
