Hey guys, I am lucky enough to come into some money this spring, and I am starting to get my "Project MSP" off the ground.

Now I know almost everyone on this forum has a "Project MSP or MP3 p5 etc..

I have some serious goals in mind, and value all input.

Performance: 13.5 in 1/4(To run with my supra friends :) )
-Internals(Need the name of a company, or might have to fab)
-EMS FMS(Haltech???)
-FMIC(Wagner)
-3in Turbo back(Apex)
-Larger Turbo(T3, T3/T4)
-Motor mounts(for the launching, Corksport)
-Rotors and pads and lines(Corksport)

Apperance: Badass MSP :)
-Leather Seats(A must for me, want custom lettering, any suggestions?)
-PIAA headlights fogs
-WW EVO Hood
-Lightweight Koing 18s wrapped in Toyos
-Springs and coilovers for a 1.5 in drop

Well just thought I would let you guys know my plans for the year, year and a half. If you feel I missed anything let me know!

I'm doing this because I love my MSP, the looks, and the fact that it is my first car(I've had others, but this is my first one I need to make payments on!). I could very easily go buy an EVO or a SRT4, but I like the changelle of modding, and being able to say "Yeah I did that.."

Feel free to post your goals on your car as well! :)

Yeah tell me about it, I know I got my work cut out for me, but I have faith.

Plus I'm getting really really bored this winter! Got nothing to do! LOL. So I am blue planning out what I am going to do once the ground thaws.

-Eric

id say invest your money into something instead of throwing it at a car... but good luck and have fun.

ps. pauter rods. :)

-Haltech E6X.

-Perfworks may still be able to get you a deal on internals. I think he was selling Pauter rods and Wiseco pistons.

-Custom equal length manifold for a GT28RS turbo.

-Get a new flywheel and clutch too.

-Make sure those 18's are lightweight.

Sounds like a good plan. I would make the turbo upgrade one of the last items you do...our turbos are pretty efficient up to ~15 psi, and you shouldn't have too much of a problem running < 13.5 with the stock turbo.

Turboge had a cool setup with a Haltech E6K (the forerunner to the E6X)...it ran in parallel with the stock ECU, and he could switch back and forth from stock to Haltech control by just flipping a switch. It also allowed the stock ECU to control stuff like the coolant fans, idle, etc.

Sounds good, thanks for the feedback.

Oh I do invest, thats were I got the money :). I only play with winnings, I'm a econ/fiance wanna be major :).

Yeah the turbo will be last thing I upgrade. I will prolly go with a GT28 since it bolts on to the mani, unless i can fab up one for the T3.

Well keep it coming guys, good sharing.

smart man...:D

In your case, id get EMS first, then a t3 with a better flowing manifold.
Dont forget all the fuel system upgrades you'll need
Pump, injectors.... probably need a rising rate FMU as well.

good times.

Nice thread find mazdaspeedpower. Yeah the forged internals and ems fms will be the biggest researching headache of my life. But also the ones with the best gains.

I think I will run 9.1:1 pistons, but 8.5 seems safer.

Interesting, anyone else?

-Eric

Yeah I am banging my head on the wall thinking about fms and ems, cant sleep at night(I know it is sad!).

If I get the haltech, I will need larger injectors, I pray that a new pump and fmu wont be needed, but I know my luck will run out and they will need to be purcharsed.

Speaking of money, I figured 10 grand should cover it, since all of the installing will be done by me and my friend. I just hope bush doesn't magically take away my tax return, or I dont run into some fiscal disaster at the home front! Wonder if I could get sponsored?

-Eric

i'd get a fuel pump and 440's for the haltech. the injectors may require a custom fuel rail though. you won't need a fmu, as th haltech will be controlling the fuel.

dont fret over the injectors and pump.
you can get a set of 450cc's from an n/a rx7 or 550cc's from a turbo II for like 50 bucks, and a walbro 255lph pump isnt more than 100. Ive heard rumors about FD rx7(93-94) fuel pumps for 25 or so bucks, and a flow rate similar to the walbro 255.

With the built bottom end, management, bigger turbo, the biggest problem you'll have is traction. But they make Nitto 555rs for that.
The tranny isnt the greatest, but if yout ake it easy on it, you'll be fine. Cryo'ing is an option as well.

With that setup you should be able to run a high 12.... :)

Cryo'ing? Whats that? Not familar with the term.

I remember reading the manual transmission were good for about 300whp. I will prolly cap the car at 250whp to avoid any tranny problems.

However, I'm not 100% on the strength of the tranny. Nothing would kill me more if this tranny s**** the bed at like 235whp lol. I know the autos on the p5 slip at 160whp or so.

I wonder what a new tranny would cost?

Great info on those injector ky, thats the info I can use! :)

-Eric

Cyro'ing takes the gears in the tranny and freeze treats them, it makes them stronger.. alot stronger, but more brittle. They'll hold more power, but if something breaks, it shatters.
You may want to do some google research on that though...

I heard the msp/mp3 tranny is good for 250+
The axles are beefed up, so they should hold up.

Dont forget to get motor mounts. Makes the car a bit rough at idle, but you'll need em for that setup.

edit: Do you have AIM?

Mine is in my sig, you should get it if you dont, its nice to have. Plus talkin turbo proteges is always fun.

I'd tell you all of my plans, but they are currently top secret, wouldnt want anyone doin it before me just cuz they got money before me, but heres some of the plans:

Stage 0: gtech, A/F ratio, boost gauge (complete) $160
Stage 1: intake, boost controller, fmic, corksport exhaust (in progress) $1100
Stage 2: wilwood brakes T28 turbo $1550
Stage 3: forged internals, lightweight flywheel, 660 injectors, fuel pump $1800

anyway, I think the evo hood looks gay as hell, but thats just me, as well as all these other lips and such. make a "show car" all you want, they'll still be nothing but ugly ricers to me, if anything all that garbage takes away from anything you've done under the hood

Well I saw 505 with the WW evo, it looks to be a good method of cooling, plus it is CF so it is lighter. Believe I hate ricers too, but is kind of hard to saw what rice is. In my mind it is all show and no go.

But what if the car has show and go? I dunno, good sharing smooth.

Hey DAMN YOU! Bushy boy is the one who gave us a bigger tax return you knuckle head :p Funny enough the Dems did put an expiration date on the tax cut one of the things he hopes to do if reelected is to make the cuts permanent. Well as permanent as it can be in this ever changing political landscape.
Yes good luck with your car it will be interesting to watch your progress via this forum.

instead of konigs, i suggest something light...velox pg series....gram lights...something like that. konigs arent very good for this type of application, unless u have ur mind set on specific ones...i could be wrong though.
