Problems with the 5 now that it's gotten cold out.....

Well it's in right now for the windshield. Hopefully it'll get done today..... that and I did notice the bushing 'crunch' a couple times, so it's getting that done too.

I'll update later and we'll see if it fixes it. Any of it.

Nap. Still there. Grr. Hope they have to pull the dash to find it. Should be fun.
The funny thing is, I think it got WORSE after the new windshiled was put in. But then again, it was colder out last night than any other time I've driven it. Sounds like someone had some Jiffy Pop under the leading edge of the dash. POP POP, POP POP POP.

Did you try this as per The Mans suggestion?

as for the popping noise, there has been issues with the mazda3s making that same noise... it's really annoying and sounds like it's coming from the corner of the windshield by the dash but at the same time it sounds like its from the outside, it's REALLY weird... cause of the problem is due to the cowl panel bolts not tight enough... when you open the hood, you'll see this big black piece of metal that runs at the top of the firewall under the plastic cowl/wipers.... there should be ONE bolt next to the strut tower, those have been the problem causer on the 3s, go ahead and LOOSEN the bolt first then retighten them... get them a tiny bit tighter than usual, but becareful not to break them! do that on both sides of the car

theMan, I looked under the hood and I couldnt find what bolts or black metal panel you were talking about? The plastic cowl seems to be covering all.

EDIT: Do you need to remove the plastic panel to get to these bolts? I THINK I may see what you're talking about(these 2 bolts attach to the black metal, and go directly up and down), but they're burried under all that plastic under the wipers.

Yes, the cowl has to come off. The 5 does not have the two bolts, however. It DOES have a string of like, 6 going across the cowl on the bottom, (facing down, not into the dash), I'll try those maybe when I get it in here again.

p.s.

As of yesterday there is now a TSB for the suspension squeaks/noise. Covers all four sway bar bushings, and all four control arm bushings. Depending on where the noise is found to be coming from.

FINALLY.

Does this mean that vehicles made after 1/27/06 shouldnt have this problem or this fix is only for vehicles made prior to 1/27/06?

It does say on the service bulletin that:

To stop the noise, the following mass production changes have occured.
- The shape of the front lower arms along with the attached bushings has been changed.
- The stabilizer bar bushing rubber was made harder and the amount of wax that is included in the front/
rear stabilizer bushing has been increased.

So hopefully all productions after 1/27/06 won't have the problem. We will see....

I know I already mentioned this, but relating to this particular topic, my 2007 Mz5 was made in about August 06 and I've yet to hear the sound. That's not to say it couldn't be planning a surprise attack in the heart of January, though.

Well ours was manufactured in April 2006 and has the "crunch". (pissed)

same here, but it only happens for the first bump when the car is still cold! doesn't really bother me (Yet!)

Even with the colder weather coming around again, I haven't felt or heard a crunch of any kind...The front suspension seems to be just fine, however I do hear a weird sort of creeking noise coming from the rear suspension in cold weather when I go over speedbumps and general bumps in the road at low speeds...

I went out and checked my VIN and production date and it fits into the rear stabilizer bushing TSB...

So here's what I'm wondering...Will the bushings I have on my 5 fail over time??? Are they in fact bad and in need of being replaced, or is it just more of an unwanted sound being emitted from the cars that Mazda is now willing to fix??? The sound issue doesn't really bother me...I've tuned it out for the most part...However, if my car is in danger of malfunctioning due to this issue I'd like to get it fixed... :D

Any advice???

While Im not sure whether or not its a danger or failing in the future, even if its not, why not get it fixed for free while you still can? It may not be making that much noise now or bothering you, but it may or may not get worse in the future? If I had to pay $20 for the fix, yeah, of course dont worry about it, but since its free, why not bring it up at the next scheduled routine maintenance and get the freebie out of it? To me it just doesnt seem to hurt getting it replaced

Thanks for the sound advice jandree :) I've thought about it and you're right..I want to get the fix done while I can and while this TSB is still new...My next oil change is due later this month, and I plan to get it taken care of then :)

12/05 for mine. Waiting till it gets cold out again before I bring it in. Probably gonna hafta leave it overnight for a tech to hear it since it does it for the first block or so then stops. Plus the windshield noise is only bad when it's below 40 degrees.
BUT, hafta wait till my Vic gets fixed. Broke a little something down at the track Sunday
