Problems: Turbo kit& MPI Piggyback

Sometimes a USB to serial adapter will not allow communications all that well. I had to assign a specific port to the adaptor before it would work right all the time. Have ya done that? Is it communication properly?

I had the same problems using the usb port..i finally gave up..and just used my serial cable port.

o.k 505 I dont have some of those settings that you have...on the ignition section I dont have the ignition dwell time part...on the switch point I only have the amp part..

The ignition wiring I'll have to check...
Bigg Timm it seems to be running o.k for me,,,,but then again im a newbie.

Acidbg: I already installed it....the plugs that I pulled out was black as night.....I cranked the car up and its still ruff...i'll buy the ngk's when I can find a store that carry them..

Can the internal wastegate be the problem: or the turbo??? the car seems to be getting the gas it needs but can it be that the turbo is not producing the air..im going to try to advance the timing and see if that will level the car out a bit...

And about the usb port...I have the program set to show the graphs at the bottom the first few times it showed it and then it stopped...im just throwing as much info as I can at you guys...

I just had to edit this: can it be that I got the wrong MPI tuner or is this a revised model????I know Nick said that the MPI would come with a beginning map but I dont have it..

You just have the older security key, don't worry I'm sure that you got the same box that we did. Lemme see if I can find the new key for ya.

If you have only the AMP switch point, don't set it as high as I did... set it more like the guys that don't use the RPM or LOAD switches, which is around .70 on the scale, IIRC.

O.k guys...I got the car running but it's still a rough idle..The 1st O2 sensor was bad...I was using one that came with the kit...I cut and soldered the one I had in the car because I knew it was good and bam...it's idling....

505 im going to check my ignition wiring.....

It would idle then drop like it want's to cut off and it would even have a slight pop in the exhaust now and then...and then up and down again..what is this due to...I'm trying to elimintaing everything that I can....

Told ya!

Ok....what you are experiencing right now is still a O2 sensor problem. Get the car running, in the street in front of your house, just to heat it up, watch the MPI and see if the a/f moves.

If it moves, reset the ECU, and try to richen or lean it up with the MPI.

The problem is, it will only happen on cold idle....right?

If not....just wait for the car to heat up and idle normal. Use the MPI to set the hot idle...drop 1 or 2 points on the map or analog global settings but do not screw the current hot idle, then next day start the car and see if it idles right. (I say next day because you need to be sure that the car is completely cold or 4-6 hours maybe should be enough).(blah)

Or give the O2 sensor a good break in, maybe some drives around for a few days.

igdrasil: I got a cel light so I figured it was the O2 sensor... the A/f on the MPI is going from 11.0-14.00 maybe every three rotations....it goes idle/idle/idle/drop....it happens on cold start and hot idle...

I installed this kit myself so now im wondering if I missed something?

I dont know!!!! If I cant get this thing to run to a point where I can tune it im going to put it up for sale..

Get a can or two of carb cleaner. Set your idle afr as lean as it will go without stalling. Then spray around all of the tubing and intake gaskets. Look for leaks. You will hear the idle pick up when you find a leak.

If you are cylcing from 11-14 at idle, you have too much fuel at idle. What's you fuel cal at and what is the number where you are idling? I have my fuel cal at 1 and a 4 in the column where it idles. If your fuel cal is higher, just subract 1 for every point higher. At a fuel cal of 4 your idle should be 1 or so.

MPNick: I will definately try this...I now remember our talk where you told me to do this(smash)....Matter of fact I disconnected the piping running to the throttle body and connected the original piping with the MAF and it idles the same but when the RPM drops I hear a real bad sucking sound...is this a leak?

Bigg Tim: I have a 1 set at the Aetemp( column to the far right) and 5 to idle..Is the fuel cal. in the global settings? If so...I have to check..

Bazooka: NIck has been a great help...I know he's waiting for me to get this car running also..It's all a learning experience....At least when you get your's I can be of some help...You know the wife is on my A$$ also so the stress is building...And you passed my restaurant last week and didnt even stop.:( ..Route14 and 18 in Whitman across from Saftlers my crew was like did you see that silver car like your yellow one, it was hooked up and then I see your mirrored tint..(cool)

Click the Global settings at the top of the screen, then the Analog tab then the top of that tab will be the fuel Calibration. The AEngtemp column sounds right, we need to know about that fuel cal, because if you have a 5 in there, it should be like 0 or 1 fuel cal. When you are idling, what is the analog out voltage at? That should be a bar graph on the left of the screen. You want it to be 2-2.1 volts at a warm idle. Give us some screen shots of the anaolg, ignition and sensor calbration tabs (both) as well as your global settings that way we know what cha got.

HI Everyone!!

Update: I took everything apart and started back from scratch as far as inlet piping from the turbo-throttlebody.....I had some boost leak as Mpnick probably knew before..I changed out couple of clamps...I still have a couple more to replace....

I did nothing today but made sure that everything was connected correctly and took it to the gas station and gave it a fill-up (93 Octane) along with MPnick injector cleaner. It's idling better now but the rpm still drops...

Bigg Tim and everyone I will post pics of all the settings I currently have..and you guys can help me out (group)...I dont know all the different tabs on the MPI tuner so I didnt mess with them...

Bazooka: I took everything out and boy did I scratch up the paint...After everything is up and running....I will send the pipes to powdercoat in a gunmetal color.. I need some new couplings in yellow..

MPNICK: I got an unexpected package from you yesterday!!!!!BOY!!!!When I saw who sent the package I was(shocked) and when I opened it up(omg).....Once again thanks for all your help so far on this turbo kit.(bow)
..There's also a guy that comes2my Restaurant and has a Mazdaspeed that is having trouble I now have your card in my pocket for when he comes by.

Post your map here. I will take a look at it.

Go into the mpi folder and move your map to the desktop. Then go to your User CP on here and upload the map. Right click and copy the map into your post on this thread.

That could be your BOV leaking. Check it ....its normal on HKS BOV's.

What BOV do you have?
