Problem with CD player

Here's the issue with the CD player in my Speed3:

It seems now that every 1 out of 5 times I start my car the the audio system will not recognize my CD player. Everything else works fine...I can cycle through all of the other options (i.e. AM/FM, AUX) but it will not let me cycle to the CD player. It still says "CD IN" (or something like that) but will not let me select the CD player option. I have tried to cycle to the CD player using the main audio controls and the sterring wheel controls...and no luck. The next time I start the car it will work fine.

For reference I have 3 of the 6 slots occupied with discs, and when I turn the car off I have the audio mode set to CD player. Has this problem happened to any one else? BTW, it also seems that I loose my radio presets, but the audio system still keeps the correct time, and remembers the last radio station that I was on.....so I don't think it's a battery connection issue.

WTF is going on?

Are you using discs with adhered labels on them? If so then they may be jamming in the changer. Most of the time when the changer jams up the HU won't recognize the changer at all.

I'd take the HU to your dealer and tell them what's happening. If they can duplicate it then they'll probably just order a replacement HU for you. If you're able to get it to eject the CD's you may want to put some in there you don't care about because when Mazda sends of HU's with stuck CDs they usually come back about a month later.

Also if they do replace the HU for you then they may let you just pay the difference (<$100) to get the Mp3 CD changer in exchange. No better time than now.

Hey man i dont know if this will even help its just a shot in the dark but check your room fuse its under the hood on the left side of the car...just make sure its in all the way i had some what of a similar problem...

Actually this happened to mine as well... I have a 3 GT and one day I couldn't get my CD's to turn on, radio and aux worked so I was like wtf!! I came home that night, next day it worked...I'm not sure it it was a different CD-R disc I had in there but I took the last one I put it and it seems to be fine and doesn't do it anymore... I would say the CD-R media is the culprit.
