Pricing on 2010s

Does anyone have any sense of what the 2010s are going to selling for when they come out this fall?

We have the option of purchasing a 2009 GT AWD with moonroof/Bose and GT Assist (nav, power rear door, etc.) for $34,093 including freight.

Alternatively, we could just wait until late September or early October and get a 2010. We've seen pictures of the 2010 and are okay with how it looks.

I just feel a little stupid paying 34k for a model that's on its way out, if the newer model is going to be similarly priced. The sales guy claims that the 2010 is going to be "significantly more expensive," but that sounds like a BS claim to me.

Are people really going to be storming the dealerships to buy 2010 CX-9s at "significantly" higher prices? Is $34k too much to pay for a 2009 at this point? What do you folks think?

no one can know with any precision what the pricing for the 2010s will be. if you are ok with the styling on both the 2009 and 2010, then it comes down to features vs. price. the $34k you have been quoted likely has a dealer incentive worked in (~$4k if still in effect). I wouldn't think they would give such an incentive for the 2010 thus i would expect to pay (at best) invoice or slightly below invoice for a 2010. that jacks your price up ~$3-4k in addition to the standard new year markup. however, there are some new features on the 2010 that may be worth it to you so i would review those changes and see if it is worth it. also...when the 2010s come out, it is possible you can get an even BETTER deal on a 2009 but your selection (color, options, etc.) may be restricted. take this all into consideration and good luck.....

personally, i bought a 2009 last month (GT with assist/bose + extras) and love it. i took the certainty of having the extra $4k off invoice but that was my own personal call. you have to make your own call.

I paid $33,476 including freight, excluding TTL, in late July for the exact same equipped CX9 (2009 GT, AWD, Moonroof-Bose, and GT Assist), so your price may be a bit high (depends on dealer and local market supply/demand).

In my opinion, you will not find a 2010 that comes even close to that in the fall because Mazda has the $4000 dealer cash deal right now to move the 2009s and there is no way they will offer that on a brand new model year. So, your sales person is not far off in his statement. My guess is you will be paying closer to invoice for a 2010 until early spring next year, and then less as the months go on and dealers are willing to give up more holdback and take less profit on them. Mazda has had time to right size production for a down market and may not be willing to offer the same incentives they have been offering on 2009s. $33-$34K for a $40K MSRP car is pretty darn good, even if it is a 2009 (still technically new) and while the 2010s will have some improvements, it's not a major overhaul or anything. Just my thoughts.

I have seen discounts upto 8k on 2009s. 2010's will not increase more than a few hundred.

I would grab it. There's no way you're going to get $8000-$10000 off MSRP on a brand new 2010, at least not right away. That's only $2000 more than I paid for a similarly equipped 2009 when the 2009's were just about to come out.

2010 is NOT a total model change. The changes are just cosmetic plus repackaging in accessories and options. Therefore 2009 is NOT a "out going model". To some people, 2009 actually looks better than 2010.

$7400 off MSRP is typical on remaining loaded 2009 (if you can find one you like). With Mazda owner loyalty discount ($1000), you can get up to $8400 off MSRP. Doable. $34K does not seem very low to me. The MSRP (of the CX9 you looked at) is probably around $41K (depending on accessories on it). You should be aiming for $33.6K for a good deal. However, it is only off by $500. It is your call really.

Thanks for these responses. Very helpful. I've learned a lot from lurking on these boards.

The 2009 does happen to be the ext/int color combo that we want, so I don't feel like I'm "settling" at all with the 2009, color-wise.

The sales guy says that this car just arrived in port in NJ a couple of weeks ago. Is that right? Are 2009s still coming out of the factory?

Why not?
Factory can switch products in a matter of few days to a week. The new one typically come out at the end of Oct. for Mazda. New 2010s should arrive at dealerships in early November.

P.S. all CX9s are made in Japan and shipped to US on cargo liners (takes about 2-3 weeks to get here).

Hi all, been in this forum for sometime but hv not register, as I love cx-9, but have not made up my mind yet...in my country, we were told that price will increase 8% for 2010 model, with more gadget... details was not given yet. as our trim was different from US, it was also coming fr Japan, but i believe is not the highest GT like US, i guess the trim will be different, so hard to compare.

It's a very big investment for us as far as buying car..expecially this car... will see if I will get one when the 2010 was launch... still thinking and thinking.. :-)

Country : Malaysia
2009 model - without insurance, Mazda was selling above USD 87K here.
2010 above USD90K.

Any pics of 2010 dash without NAV?

Are there any pics of the 2010 dash *without* navigation? I have seen the pictures with Nav, but wondering how much of a difference there will be for the non-nav version.
