whats a 99 miata worth now a days, with no power options, cloth interior, 75,000 miles, no hard top. its a 5spd RWD.

dealer here is asking $16,000 CDN for it... (boom08)

Not sure, Sounds like maybe it was removed. It came up checked on KBB, so I'm guessing it was standard equipment.

nope, not standard... Lots of them come w/o power steering.. you don't really need it on a car that light.

99 base? 1st off, check to see if it's a "sport package" 15" wheels better suspension etc. Hard to find and generally the most sought after 99+ miatas. Check the door sticker to see if it says "Hard S suspension" then it's a Sport (if it Says "Sport S" it's a base model)

anyway, not too sure about Candian, but aroudn here they're going for as low as $8k US..

You won't noticed the lack of power steering much when driving. I've converted both of my Miatas to manual steering and it's fine when driving. The only time a bit of muscle is required is when turning the wheels while stopped.

its a californian car too..
by door sticker you mean inside the car? im going in on monday again, cause i laughed off the 16k sticker price a bit.. i can afford to give them 10k cdn for it. its got a CF shift knob and the roll bar too ;)

Actually the second gen miatas without power steering are rare and highly sought after by some weird enthuisiasts. (I love my PS and ABS despite most ellitest enthusiasts' scorn :D )

KBB.com said the max retail on the car is $9,765. Private party value is $7,780.

Clearly this car lot is trying to make a killing off this car. There's no way they would have paid over retail value for the car when they aquired it (trade in value is only $5,875), so they are just trying to set the price high so some dummy can come in and give them full retail ($9,700 or perhaps a bit more with a big down payment) for the car and think they got a good deal because the sticker was $16K!!! This makes their profit somewhere around $4,000.

It's all a game. It depends on how you play it. I have sold cars before, trust me (didn't last long because I wasn't scandalous enough).
If they do not give you the price you want (I would shoot for $7,000--that's fair) just WALK AWAY. You can find plenty of other comparable miatas everywhere for a much more reasonable price.

Another thing is are you planning to get financing through the dealership or are you pre-approved through a financial institution of your choice?

believe me when I say you will get a much better deal on the financing if you go with your own bank/credit union. And don't worry about the amount of the loan they extend you...if they offer you a 100% financed loan on this car (around the $9,700) that is good. It cuts out all the BS with the dealership on haggling over the price and/or payment amount.
You simply walk in, say you want the car, tell them you have a pre-approved loan, what you offer them for the car, and walk away if they do not want to deal. Simple as that.

I know it *may* be difficult at first to walk away, but YOU have to take control. I know initially there are fears of someone buying the car out from under you, or you want it right away (impatience will COST you), but the thing is that if someone comes and buys the car for a ridiculously high price, at least it wasn't YOU that they made a monkey of, see? (monkey2)

Just trying to help ya out. Good luck. :)
