Price of CAI flash?

Does anyone know the approximate price of going to the dealership to get this flash for CAI on the Speed3's? I just installed my CAI and I figure I might as well take advantage of the new mod. So anyone with any experience wanna shoot out the prices that they got this done for? I personally think it should be free, but I expect a little charge from the dealer even though they just plug it in.

Yeah, I think you might have a hard time getting Mazda to justify reflashing your ECU everytime you get an aftermarket modification.

Well after reading this, it may not be necessarily just for CAI, but it sure seems like it's worth a shot. It'd be nice get the most out of this mod and get rid of the sooty tip. I don't plan on getting it tuned every time i get it modded but if there's a flash to do, then it's easy enough to get it reprogrammed. I ultimately plan on getting several larger mods put on all at once and then getting a professional tune rather than worry about a simple flash. Anyone know of any prices?

I sgree with Shark. I didnt know there was a flash for the MS CAI. I am at 2600 miles on my ride and no CELS. I had followed the MS CAI installation instructions and disconnected the battery. U actually hear a small click after several minutes letting u know that the ECU is in relearn mode. So I am just going to drive it as I like. I also heard thru the forum that it is not necessary to disconnect the battery. And the ECU will just adapt to the CAI.

search for MS3 flash. there's a long thread about it. It was only for certain cars and had nothing to do with the CAI.

Ok this will sound super dumb....why would you need to do this? I have had tons of customers buy CAIs and no one said anything about a reflash. I mean I have put a CAI on every single car I have owned and not needed this...what am I missing?

Oh and I am sure if you want Mazda to reflash....they will be willing but will you be willing to pay?

The mazdaspeed cai leans out the air/fuel mixture, which provides better gas mileage and more horsepower. The only reason for a reflash would be to optimize the air/fuel ratio, but because the ms3 comes tuned rich from the factory, the a/f ratios are still at a safe level after the cai leans out the mix. In other words a reflash would most likely make you lose power because it would richen up the mixture again. On that note there is no reflash for the cai from mazda, so if you want to reflash the ecu you will have to wait for cobb to release its accessport. You should definately unplug your battery to reset the ecu or your car will think the stock intake is in and will not learn the new fuel trims as quickly, causing it to throw a CEL.

Thanks. I had no idea. I mean you would think it would be like adding an intake to any other car.

every obdII maintained vehicle will LEARN around bolt on intakes. the vehicle will lean out a very small bit, but the engine will adjust to the added flow and send more fuel to the mix. it might take a few driving cycles, but it will happen. this doesn't mean much, but you will still get a ton of extra power!!

wait till u get full exhaust and intake then tell them ur car is idling a little rough and they will give u reflash most likely.....(wow)

well if u tell them ur idle is shaky they could "reflash" ur ecu reload ur stock settings..or even just give u the update regardless of vin number. depends on ur dealer of course

why would you want a reflash of your stock setting when you are looking for more HP ? that isn't going to do anything.

you need to disconnect the battery and have your car relearn !!!

Agreed... and just to be on-topic, an ECU re-flash isn't needed with a CAI install. The ECU re-flash is a whole separate topic previously discussed in another thread ad nauseum.

However, your ECU will need to re-learn and adjust its settings. It normally does this on its own after a few days of regular usage, but I've heard a few people mention that the process didn't work for them after normal driving. Just to be sure, you can always disconnect the battery for a bit to reset the ECU.
