PR5 Stock Intake, How good is it?

I am a subaru guy but a friend of mine has a PR5 and wants to start doing a few mods with my help. He was asking me about intakes the other day and I know what the good brands are but I was wondering how good the stock intake is.

On most subarus the stock intake flows just as well, maybe better than the aftermarket brands that are avaliable. So we usually mod our airboxes by removing the silencers in the fender and adding a good filter in the airbox. I was wondering if this is also true with the PR5 stock intake setup?

AEM makes quality stuff. But if OEM flows just as good with a snorklectomy and a K&N drop in then that will save about $170!

It's pretty much just two nuts if I remember right, I've had mine off for quite some time though, might be a few clips too.

Its 2 nuts above the radiator on each side and then the clip to the air box. I saw no use for this sence the opening is sealed off at top and bottom by the seals on the underside of the hood. From what I can tell I cant see where it would get any air from unless you cut the inside top of your upper grille out. Ive been needing a new upper grille so im gonna try cutting the top out and see it it helps with some cold air getting in there. Other than that ive put a k&n drop in and keep the snorkel in my trunk! Helps on fuel mileage and improves response when you jam the gas to the floor!

PS. In that pic up there why is there the snorkel and a CAI? Forgot to remove the rest of the stock air box?
