PowerChip

Hey Wassup guys,

I'm from Australia and new to this forum. I just thought to pass on some info since I came across to one of the posts in here about "Powerchips" for the P5 (USA) etc. The P5 in Aus is named (Mazda Astina SP20) which im a proud owner of one these baby's.
Anyways, I know that here in Aus there is a company that manufactures powerchips for the SP20. Which I guess is identical to the (P5). Therefore I'm just passing on the link so you guys can take a look at it and find out more info on it. I might be getting one soon, but for me is almost $1000 Aus $ which for you guys would be around $500 US.

I tried to do a search on the USA region but Mazda is not even on the list to select the make. So you can try this:

When you guys click on the link. Click on the region of Australia and then make your selection "Mazda". Then Select model "SP20 2.0 4 Cyl" which is almost on the way down. Then just click "Go"

Let me know how you guys go!!

Safe Cruizin!

Carlos

This looks pretty promising- the conversion for us is we go to about 150hp and 145lb/ft- not too shabby for $550USD- do you know anyone using their chips????:D

hello Carlos and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. (stash)

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!! (stash)

I have seen this before....but thanks for bringing it up again...certianly its the first time SOME have seen it.

Can someone translate this?

In standard form, the SP20 2.0 4cyl produces 98 kW and 174 Nm.
Powerchip has a range of chips to suit your car, which can increase it's power to between 108 kW and 111 kW, and it's torque to between 189 Nm and 194 Nm.

hey,

since i'm an aussie member too, i'll reply. yes the ecu's are the same. the cars in australia and the usa are the same appart from left hand drive/right hand drive and a few very minor things.

ok, 98kw is about 131hp. 108kw is about 144hp. 1kw = 1.34hp.

torque, i dunno. but i hope the above helps.

That chip sounds pretty kewl....but i am running a n20 kit...and advancing my timing will only lead to detonation...Now if that new ecu...will retard timing while shooting....i would be interested in it!

Good news

The aussies seem to come up with piggyback solutions (Powerchips, Unichips, etc.)

We need to see this in the U.S. I'm going to send them an email to see if we can get something started. I'd advise all others who see this to do the same. Who knows, we might get what we need for our ECU's yet!

Thanks for the heads up!

Jim

Hummm??

I was wondering if the chip will work on an MP3. Knowing that the MP3 already has advance timing, how much power would the chip add to the mp3?

Anyone know the answer?

189Nm is more like 142 ft-Lb and 194Nm is more like 146Ft-Lb....yeah, yeah..I know, I'm being picky.....but decimal error adds up to more perfomance....so that's my math conversion anyway..Peace!;)

i emalied them and waiting for a responce, seems the chip will offer a lot more torque than hp, but who knows. waitng for a reply from them.

anyone know if this chip woudl be counter productive on a turbo engine?

EDIT: Oh, yeah it just advances timing, it woudl be like making a protege5 into a MP3 + 5hp. You'd run 93 octane as well.

Chip sounds good for anyone going N/A but people w/ turbo's or nitrous (like myself) will not benefit from this unless the chip has settings that can change (retarding the timing)when boosting or in my case shooting!!

Likewise

Hope to hear from them.... they do state on the US web site they're working on Mazda applications. We shall see...

Have you or anyone else heard from them anything? This seems to be ok deal, if it works :)

Bad News\Good News...Maybe

I just got off of the phone with the United States branch of Powerchips, and the rep informed me that the Aussie branch is RESTRICTED from selling to North America. Booo! But they did say that they would be importing Japanese chips later the year. I wont hold my breath. I have a couple of contacts in Austalia...lemme see what I can come up with.
