The power tailgate in my 2008 CX-9 does not work anymore. Whenever I press the driver side button to open/close the tailgate it beeps twice and nothing happens. The same behaviour if I press the close button in the tailgate door when opened.

Closing it manually is fine and the lock latches properly.

Any idea what to look at as a DIY as I am not inclined to go through a dealer expensive diagnostics and repair at this point.

Thanks,

I thought there was a TSB for this somewhere, you might want to ask your dealer about it.

Hi, there are several possible causes. One is the motor is worn out, another is the mounting area on the actual tailgate for the lifting arm may be coming off of the tailgate. There are a few people on here who have had it rip right off. I would think if it is out of place enough, it might be out of tolerance.
Keep in mind these tailgates are designed so if a child has their hand under the gate area when it closes, it won't chop a hand off, as soon as it measures any resistance, it opens right back up. So under normal operating circumstances, if your gate has rusty hinges for instance, or has any resistance at all, it wont work.
Some folks on here have had insulation get into the motor area and lifting arm area behind the quarter panel trim, and the insulation actually puts resistance on the arm, blocking it from working perfectly. My money in your situation would be the insulation inside the trim panel. Take the quarter panel trim panel off and inspect for insulation interfering with gate operation.

Thanks for the reply. Will check it out, when it gets a bit warmer :)
