I would recommend bringing your phones (BOTH OF THEM) with you for a test drive. Some users have reported issues based on the model of ipod/iphone.
Great suggestion. I've had several iPhone 4s running iOS 6.x and an iPhone 5 running iOS 6.x and 7.x -- Bluetooth Audio (A2DP) works pretty well, phone calls (BT OBEX profile) work well, I have never once been able to play a voicemail over the car speakers (nor can I play over the phone's speaker when paired to the car, a problem I have in no other vehicles or Bluetooth devices). I do not use the USB connection ever, I have a 12v to USB converted in the center console, and I charge using that. If I plug into that cable, odd things happen. I have no issue shuffling over Bluetooth Audio.
I will say, however, that the stereo is the least of the problems with the Technology Package, and personally would not pay for it again (nor would I buy another CX-5): http://www.cxfail.com/2012/12/technology-package-malfunctions.html
Many of these issues also showed up in Edmund's long-term 2014 CX-5.
Good luck!
