I am designing a system for one 10" sub. I have a few ideas which include fiberglass enclosures. The 10" will be a good one, so I want the best location for it. You can face it towards the driver, towards the back of the trunk, sideways behind the wheel well, etc etc. Please post your subwoofer setup here (including type of woofer), and note the sound quality / rattles. Placement of a sub is key in a good sounding system....but I have never installed a system in a protege. Thanks.

2 12" alpine type r's in a normal carpeted wood sub box powered by an audiobahn 2 channel 1600 watt amp. location: in the trunk facing outward. insane bass. only complaint is the license plate frame rattles out of control, but that can be easily fixed. hope this helps a little.

buy some servo tape for r/c cars. Its basically foam with 3m tape on both sides. it's perfect

one 12" Digital Designs 9500e. powered by a directed 1200.1d amp mounted to the back of the back seat. sub is in a normal carpeted box, facing outwards. pounds like a mother... rattles trunk, rear center console(i believe that's what it's called)...liscence plate doesn't rattle no more, i used 2-way tape..........
BUT my deck has that stupid "stuck in open" thing right now so i cant listen to my sounds until i get that fixed.

Not true. It doesn't matter where you put it or which direction it's facing. The most important things are the airspace (note: sealed boxes are better for sound quality), your equalizer, and the quality of the subwoofer.

I've got this awsome single 8" Kenwood sub, enclosed in a custom box with a massive Kenwood 250 watt amp mounted to it. I had it custom mounted so it points downward from the rear deck-lid for mAd BaSs Yo!! You ain't seen nothin like it!! ;)

My friend and I just had a pretty long discussion about this statement, he said it does matter where its placed.. and here is the outcome of our arguement. (in case anyone cares (poke))

Bobryan50: ok lets forget the whole discussion before this point
Bobryan50: and just think of this
Bobryan50: 2 of the same cars
Bobryan50: 1 sub is facing up in the trunk
Bobryan50: 1 is facing down in the other car
Bobryan50: you have an amazing equilizer... say.. top of the line alpine
Bobryan50: in each car
Bobryan50: and you measure and EQ it by using a real-time spectrum analyzer
Bobryan50: both subs will sound the same when you're done
Bobryan50: given that both of their enclosures are the same size
Bobryan50: aside from that.. you are completely right
CreativeDesignz1: s*** dude i think i left my spectrum analyzer in my pants...**** t hey are in the wash
Bobryan50: lol
CreativeDesignz1: lol
CreativeDesignz1: so we are both right to an extent
Bobryan50: yeh.. like i was wrong.. unless its EQ'd
CreativeDesignz1: werd
CreativeDesignz1: way to be a dumbass
CreativeDesignz1: lol
Bobryan50: lol

I had a 10" JL W0 in a sealed box ( about 1.8 cubicft.) and that puppy sounded nice and it was hooked up to the stock amp. It went perfect together, but i blew that sub....(hand) so i just went out and baught 2 6x9 - 4-way kenwoods and put them in the rear deck, and now i sound like a music hall going down the road......(rockon)

You are also right, but the direction the sub is facing is going to make a difference in how the system sounds in specific cars. The exact same system sounds different when put in different configurations or different vehicles in almost all cases. The enclsure is the most important part, I will agree with that. Placement also makes a difference (but not in sound quality), in other qualities.

I have a 12 inch Kenwood 3009 in a sealed 3/4 inch MDF box (1.13 cubic feet) facing the rear of the car.
It's powered by a MTX Thunder 302.
The stock Kenwood amp is driving the front doors.
I ripped out the stock rack, have both amps on the back of the rear seats.

i got a 12" alpine type r sub in a carpet box and a phoenix gold octane r 500:1 amp pushin it......i like it :)

got 2 "12 alum eclipse running off 800x1 titanium phoenix gold box is freaking heavy sub zero box made for these subs only. it hits and hits nice and clean

The ANG switch man!

Press and hold the button that says ANG over it on the right-hand side of the deck. Your deck will go back to the flat configuration. Not many people know that that is the "ANGLE" switch and that the deck is supposed to sit that way when you hit that button.

i love your setup.......did you do it yourself, if not, then how much did the fiberglass setup run you?

It's all in the sig.
And by the way, where the subs are mounted can have an effect on the "sound" or output of a sub system. It's called the cabin gain effect.

12" RE HC 2.0cf custom box tuned to 40hz with a crossfire vr1000d. port is facing the side and woofer is facing forward. i found that if you mount the woofer towards the back in a sedan, all you do is rattle the trunk. it does NOTHING other than that. i get parcel tray rattle.

First off, I replaced my deck with a Panasonic CQ-C8400U deck... MUCH easier to use, more power to the stock Kenwoods, and looks HELLA nice.

For bass, I installed a JL 250/1 amp to a JL 10w3 subwoofer in a box (speaker faces sideways in the trunk). It sounds FRIGGIN NICE without being too overpowering.

2 JL 12W7's
JL 1000/1 amp..
one big ass sealed carpeted box...
and one shattered windshield (dont turn up the gain too much)
aimed backwards, it's pretty rockin
oh and feedin that b**** is my piorneer avic-n1 in dash dvd... though i still gotta say elemental has my ass beat with his fiberglass
