Well Matt, you're putting me in a tough spot here.

What I like about the Del Sol:

The Paint Job (Volvo C70 Orange?)
The Sparco Seats
NOS (was it hooked up or just for show?)

What I don't like about the Del Sol: Everything else.

Would I consider it rice? To my standards, yes.

That's really cool that you place first at NOPI, a very big show to say the least. I guess east coast and west coast styles of cars are very different. But I must say there are a lot of clean rides in the east coast. Like I said before, I'm more into the JDM/simple and clean look.

Thank you I guess?
The paint you were close on....'00 Ford Mandarin copper pearl mtlc.
The seats and no one ever notices all the fine details like the fact that I re-covered the doors and rear surround with the same sparco material.Nor all the fiberglass work. The T.V. in between the fiberglassed visors. The custom fiberglassed center console W/ a Dakota digital volt meter to monitor my tunes. There is enough done on this car ,it would take me like a half hour to type it all in here.
One thing you might not have realized,I did this ALL myself with the help of a couple friends. It was a 6 mo. non-stop build up.
Beleive it or not, when it was all said and done,I still had about 23K in the whole car!
I could only imagine what it would have cost me to pay someone else to do it!
OH wait ,I know how much that cost! $9500.00 ! This is the amount I sold it for in Feb.

Forcefed, I think your car is tight. I have no problem with incredibly modded cars, as long as they're tasteful and well executed (a shoddy paint job or no paint job on the body kit is rice, a wing that doesn't fit the car's styling is rice, cheaply painted interior is rice, stickers for no reason is rice, badges that don't belong is rice).
From your car you can tell that you put a lot of QUALITY and THOUGHT OUT work into it, be it appearance or performance.

Plus, I don't believe having A-pillar pods with guages is rice, especially if you do have a need for it (if you have heavy performance mods done to your car you want to see what's going on. If you overboost and don't know, Kablamo!!).

Anyway, love the license plate!! keepin' it real :D

Thank you very much!:D
I really did plan everthing out on this car.Not one thing wasn't planned and executed as I wanted it to be.I spent two months doing research and getting my parts together.I had a bedroom in my house dedicated to storing all of my parts for the build up before we went to town on it!It's kinda like the room I have now for my MSP,a room with lots of accumulated parts just waiting to go on the car.BTW,the car was not all looks either,it had every conceivable motor mod short of boost or a heart transplant!
Matt:)
But ,yes it was still slow, hence the plate....DEL SLOW

Matt-

Mad props for doing the build up yourself.

edit in: I don't think there were pics of the engine bay. Was it a B16 or a D16 you had in there.

The point is the wing is not functional. It's for looks only. I'm guessing the same thing for the hood scoop, unless it is really ducted into the intake.

wings that come stock on front wheel drive cars (read: your precious mazdaspeeds) aren't functional either, are they?

You want to know what the function of ForceFed's Wing was? To change the look of his car and make it unique! It worked didn't it?

Why is everyone so against changing the appearance of your car? Some people want their cars to look different. It seems that if you want to be unique, you're considered rice!!

If it's your car, do what you want with it. Who cares what other people think!! Everyone has their own taste.

We're not all sheep..

No, they aren't. I think they look terrible. But I wasn't claiming they were functional, either.

Who cares what other people think!!

He does. He cares what other people think. That's the entire point of the car - he took it to shows and asked "What do other people think?"

A wing on the rear of a car has a function - it increases the downforce on FAST cars to hold the DRIVE wheels to the pavement. As such, wings on FWD cars are just absurd. It doesn't make the car unique, it makes the car look like it's trying to be something it's not. If he wanted to be unique, he would put a big Statue of Liberty on the trunk. It would be as functional, and only slightly more absurd than that wing.

I do give ForceFed a lot of credit for doing all that work himself. It looks like he did it right. I respect the work and talent, I just don't like the end result.

Thank you!
I respect your opinion and you are entitled to that. The pics really do the car no justice.I used to get compliments from tons of the street rod guys at the local (HUGE) cruise-ins,and we all know that is a feat in itself. The older street rod guys usually wont even give you the time of day if you pull in in an import thats all done up.All the guy's reactions were about the same. They all said it was a very well done ,clean and tasteful import.I really love very clean cars that flow well together. All the part must look like they belong on the car.I will be honest, the wing was even a little too large for my taste but it flowed excellent with the body lines. If you look at the front A-pillar,it has about the same slope as the front of the wing. This is why I choose this wing over some 3 ft. tall gaudy aluminum one. There is a lot of body mods that you guy's might still not notice,REAL Lexus GS400 inner tails molded in,shaved trunk lock ,shaved and relocated antenna.etc.I really liked the style of the hood, that is why I choose it.It is not a funtional ram air hood but it did keep the underhood temps down a bit.If you look around ,no one made a pillar pod for the del sol so we made our own to house the gauges.I think everything turned out great.I even had a machine shop make me 1 of a kind billet armrests for each door in a brushed finish.

The motor was even better than the B16 or D16,it was the D15 non VTEC!Talk about hard to get parts for!It had header and full 2.25'' exhaust exiting through a skunk muffler,AEM cam gear,Centerforce clutch,B&M short throw shifter(we cut down 2'' for an even shorter throw)CAI and lots of BLING polishing.
The wheels,18 '' Konig Imagines black opal,w/Nitto 450 tires.

I don't know.I could go on and on but i'll stop.
All I do know is that I had a lot of blood sweat and tears in that car and I loved it to death.
I never ever heard one person call this car rice in person. It was known as one of the cleanest imports rollin the area. The only time it has EVER been called rice ,was on this board.

Wait till you see what the MSP has in store!

:wtf: Way to ruin the thread guys... I swear, this rice debate is a f@#king broken record.

Sorry! I just hate the term "RICE"
Anytime someone doesn't like something the call it "RICE" instead of saying "hey, that really just doesn't do anything for me?"
You see ,it is a very over used and mis-understood term. There IS "RICE" rolling around, and I will call it when I see it ,but a lot of what some of you guy's don't like is not "RICE".What it is ,is a guy who want's to be different and stand out in a crowd! If you are not a show based person then you WILL NOT understand this!

my ride before my msp.

http://www.homepagez.com/redzero/members/ash

mods: trd supercharger, gibson catback, edelbrock headers, ngk wires, hayden tranny cooler, trd/autometer boost gauge, clear front signals, superwhite foglights and turn signals, plasma headlights

and yeah those are windshield washer leds in that one pic.....they were cool at first cause no one else had them at the time. now....i'm glad i took them off. i still like my clear signal lenses though. cleans the front up a lot and looks much better than orange. it was pretty quick for a 4runner....estimate low 15's. which is kinda funny cause that means i'm not that much quicker in my msp now (spin)

EDIT: ok i give up. i'll just post the link to my old website.

Not my actual car, but it looked exactly like that.

1991 Audi 200 quattro 20v. Rare car (less than 1000 in US). Had the 5-cylinder 20v turbo engine later used in the original S4 and S6. Great road car, fast, comfortable, unstoppable in the snow. With a chip and some other not-so-expensive mods you could easily get over 300hp. Stock it did 6.5 sec 0-60. REALLY a pain to get parts for, and they were always expensive.

basically people call cars rice and I see it as a personal attack.. an attack on that person's taste.. they wouldn't like it if I started picking on the clothes they wear.. it's just as personal and just as childish.. it's all a matter of style and what you like.

i thought your "Del Slow" was dope and was bothered by people picking apart the appearance just because they don't like it.

yeah i really liked my 4runner. especially when i was surprising some unsuspecting fellow. you shoulda seen it when i pulled on an ecplise gt (the 2000 type model) with 3 other people in my car (laugh) now that was some funny s*** :D

this is a pretty cool thread. I don't have pics of my older cars....just from 1997 and up....in order they are:

1. my 1991 Honda CRX HF (got off an old lady in 1997 and it was perfect....not even a scratch inside or out. I did a nice easy ZC engine swap and put on a CAI and it was a fun little car.....had my share of Integra kills with it back in the day)

2. 2000 Aprilia Mille (I got rid of the CRX and only had motorcycles until 2003 when I got the MSP and the Element)

3. 2003 Yamaha R6 (traded in the Aprilia for the R6 and it was my only transport until I buckled and bought cars again)
