Possibly selling, what's a fair asking price?

I may be selling my Speed3 since taking a job I can walk to. It's an '07, obviously, Grand Touring with 11,000 miles.

What would be a fair asking price in the opinion of those present?

Thanks,

Mike

1. what color?
2. what kind of break in procedure did you do?
3. where are you located?
4. Did you get the motor mount fixed in the recall?

We might be able to work something out for $18,500-19000 range. The warranty transfers correct?

Edit: have any mods been done?

1. Silver
2. Factory recommended break in (I'll have to look to see what it was exactly)
3. Cleveland, OH
4. Yes, the mount recall has been performed.

I owe about $22k on it, so I won't be taking 18-19. Sorry. If that's what I can expect to get for it I'll just keep it.

Also, it's not actually for sale at the moment. I'm still trying to decide. If I do sell it, I'll list it in the proper place on this board.

Thanks for the responses.

Yea that is about all the money I have right now. Is 22000 your minimum price then?

i really dont see you breaking even.
When you buy a car, its nearly impossible to resell it and not lose money on it.
Especially with a car like this, people would rather spend a few extra thousand on it rather than getting 2000 off and having to settle with a used.

That's just my take on it though.

Good luck with it all.

i agree.
i'm gonna be in the market soon to buy a ms3, i'd go for a new one
if the price on a used one isn't less than 19K.

That's cool Mike. Let me know if you officially put it up for sale and we can talk.

I'm curious on how 20,000 became the "magic" number for a used MS3?

Here's how i see it.
24,600 sticker plus what ever the dealers add.
Delaers in my area are getting sticker and not much less.

New sport models are 23,000, so for a GT with all the extra goodies, 23,000 is a resonable price. your getting a top of the line for the price of a base model. Mileage plays a factor for sure, but what about extended warranties or other options?

20,000 would be a steal for sure and the seller would be a dumbass for letting it go that cheap IMO. but hey if you can get a MS3 for 20k i'd buy one my damn self

You have to put yourself in the shoes of the prospective buyer. Being one myself, unless you find a sucker (and they're certainly out there) there's no way you'll break even. Think about it. You can buy a new GT for about $24k otd (before tax) All things being equal, at 22k... the buyer would be saving $2k. But all things aren't equal. the interest rate you can expect on a new car vs private party is at least a couple pts apart. Couple that with the fact that most of the types that would be interested in a car like this are probably far more interested (than the avg car buyer) in having a brand new model. why? beak in for starters... It would be hard for me to take someone's word on this. break in for a... honda accord isn't a big deal. but for a high performance/turbo vehicle like this... it's essential. then there's the possible blemishes (I like knowing I bought my car off the truck and have literally been the only one ever to drive it) i'm the guy who parks across the street from the grocery store... no dings on my ride thank you! and then of course... mileage. while 11k isn't a lot for a year... it's still 11k more than a new model. When you factor in all of these things, your price would have to be closer to the 20k mark in order to sell. (which, as you said, isn't going to happen.) A local mazda dealership recently got a black GT with 8900 miles on it.... put it out on the lot with a big sign that read $19900... it sold that same day. though black isn't my first choice, at that price... I would have probably bought it. Despite the things I mentioned above... 4k IS enough of a difference.

but goodluck.. probably better in the long run. this is a kickass car and worth keeping around. they say cars just keep getting better and better. for the most part, that's true. but really... how much better can it get? for anyone interested in owning one of these (I'm mostly talking to myself here) u better strike while the iron's hot. after the 08's are gone... adios ms3 as we saw with the new wrx, there's no guarantee the replacement will be an improvement.

I agree that most buyers for a MS3 would rather buy new due to the type of car it is. BUT not everyone can afford a new MS3. My asking price of 23,000 is coming with a 7yr/75k mile warranty...... I dunno about the other guy here, but I know that the extended warranty should have enough time/mileage to cover the next owner , maybe the next 2 owners.

As for break in and caring what people did, in the end it doesn't matter , why cause you'll never know how someone drove the car. Anyone would be a fool to believe that any current owner of the car has babied up until now. come on, people we buy these cars to drive and have a great time with.

If you have the money to buy new by all means do it, IMO 23k is reasonable, especially for a car with a 7yr extended warranty . 22k ish for a car that doesn't have an extended warranty is still reasonable. why..... cause its still cheaper than buying a NEW SPORT MODEL. and has all the extra goodies.

People look at the monthly payment. (few pay cash up front)
You are selling a used car. You will not get a new car interest rate on a used car. The difference between new and used by my FCU is 2%. 3.9% for new and 5.9% used.

Your car @ 23k spread out 60 months @ 5.9% is 443.58
A new car @ 25k spread out 60 months @ 3.9% is 459.28

That's what you are up against. The 7/75 is a nice selling point but I'd take new over used when the difference is less than $20.

My sport model was less than 25k

I just bought an '07 Mazdaspeed3 GT (silver) with 15,000 miles on it. I paid $19,600 (have not paid tax/title/license yet) and felt like I got a pretty darn good deal! (this one also has upgraded speakers, amp, sub and a Garmin Nvi 350 (a portable GPS unit). This car also had a 4 year - 75,000 mile extended warranty which I declined (a longer warranty has more appeal to me than one that covers more miles).

Just thought I'd put my experience out there for refrence...

^seems like a fair price you paid Hirudin.

That thing that urks me is how alot of these very new used cars that have barley any miles on them ask prices close to or above what you could get a new one for. It's like these people think you should PAY them for putting miles on a car. Just insane.

There was a silver GT w/3400 miles on it for sale on ebay... car looked to be in excellent condition with no issues. buy it now was $19,500... needless to say, it didn't last long. I would've been all over it had it not been located 2k miles away.

Recently, in my town, I found a black GT w/8900 miles... also in excellent condition with a price of $19.9... Dealership was closed at the time. Called first thing the next day and it was already sold. lol

So yeah.. $22k is more than fair for a slightly used GT... $20k is almost ridiculous... I'm thinking these particular dealerships (the ones referenced above) didn't truly know what they had on their hands. When I called about the black GT... the guy (it was a kia dealership of all things... someone traded in an MS3 for an F'in Kia??? wtf???) but anyway... he was like, "yeah, that's one of the nicest 3's I've ever seen. fully loaded... guy who had it seemed to have modified it quite a bit." LOL I'm like.... 'umm.... my timing's about as bad as your IQ'

...
It might be for the better. I saw that one as well (it's always bad to check prices after making a purchase); the feedback of that seller was atrocious. It was something like 85% positive and 3 of the last ~5 feedbacks were negative with comments like "obvious problem with car was not disclosed in auction description". It's not listed in a "completed auctions" search... I wonder if eBay removed it?
