possible warranty issues

I know a dealer cannot denay warranty work due to aftermarket parts. I know that thay will have to prove the aftermarket part cause the problem.
Ok, now I want to know what probably could go wrong if I do the followings mods and what the dealer "MIGHT" say to void my warranty:

-FMIC
-CAI
-Tubo back exhaust
-Boost GAUGE

Could any of these mods possibly cause drivetrain problems and void my warranty?
The only think I can think of is that these mods will add about 50 hp and if the tranny breaks they might blame it on too much HP??

I'll tell you this, If you brought your car to the shop I work at my service man. wouldn't even allow us to work on it.

That many noticable mods I personally think any dealer would have a hard time warrenting any engine/tranmission problems.

Sorry I know thats not what you want to hear......

exhaust, cai, boost gauge won't void the warranty. you touch the intercooler piping though, and bye bye warranty so that fmic is a no no. that's what i was told at my dealership.

how will a CAI void it, and not intercooler?

doesnt make sense, and if i was denied warranty work because of mods, id be calling a lawyer pronto..

true true. they should do warranty work unless they can prove the part caused the problem. i dunno why the cai won't void the warranty. probably because it's only replacing the intake piping, not the ic piping. who knows? chojin told me the warranty stuff.

Generally, here in Canada as long as boost isn't increased (or no signs/evidence of increased boost). Then they'll warranty it. You're not neccessarily "adding" power per se. You're just making your car run more efficiently ;) :D

Hm you know I never checked on it but just assumed a turbo timer wouldn't do anything. Think they'll give me crap about that?

when i was at the dealer picking up oil filters a couple of mecheanics were checking out my intercooler and said nothing about voiding the warranty. but i have heard stories of people having problems with warranty issues from mods and they would have effect on parts that went wrong. as a mechanic i work in an indapendant volvo repair shop and i see what the volvo dealerships try rip people off and lie. dealerships are only as good as good as the mechanics are. and i dont see to many good mechanics at dealerships. i have a hard time trusting dealerships and never had to deal with any warranty work.

The general rule of thumb is that dealers are morons and will almost always try telling you that something you did voided the warrenty. It doesn't matter how rediculous their claim is -- they'll tell you anything to make you go away or to make you pay them money.

I can't give you any examples because I can't come up with any excuses stupid and outlandish enough that would sound like a dealer said it.:)

The last 2 times I went to the dealer, I was given no hassle about warranty work for any of my mods. I have since installed my SSQV, but my dealer knew that I had a ongoing boost leak and that I was going to change it.

Striker- You should inquire to your dealer about their reasoning in this matter. The original setup used hardpipes, and I can't see any reason why a larger IC or a set of hardpipes would void the powertrain warranty.

BlkZoomZoom- What sort of problems may arise from making the car breathe better with a larger exhaust, and providing colder air for the engine via larger IC+CAI??? I don't see what a dealership could prove in court to justify voiding the entire warranty. I mean, say I had a problem with the turbo not getting oil, for whatever reason. You're telling me, that your service manager would claim that one of my mods caused this, without a doubt???

a larger ic then can say yields more HP. Also an intake or freer flowing exhaust can increase spool up times of the turbo and cause a bit of boost spike. If the turbo is spooling faster and the engine is getting cooler air mazda can dyno prove that the intake and all the mods increased HP thus putting load on the engine that was not meant to be that way from the factory. Essentially mazda has all of us by the balls and they know it.

Well, I guess screw it then... Anyone know where to get a good deal on an EBC and engine management?:)

Basically if you leave your car in the garage and never drive it, you'll be safe...

I can come up with one. I had my car in last week to have them look at the sub. They told me because the stereo installer hooked up the wires wrong (on my pioneer), there is nothing they can do to fix it.

What the HELL. Regardless of if the stereo was hooked up wrong. The only wire going from the head to the amp is an RCA. WTF!!!

On a side note, they did bill Mazda for .9 hours of labor when all they did was to look and make sure the led was on on the amp. I asked for a copy of the Tech notes.

Thanks for the info guys. I want to modify my car, but it is my only car abd I am a bit scared.
Before this car I had a 99 Integra GSR that I modify the crap out of it the moment I bought it. I had different cams, clutch, flywheel, LSD, CAI, header, exhaust shocks, springs...... I never worried about warranty. I really trusted that engine!! I don't care what anyone says about Honda, but the engine was undestructable!! The car had 60k miles of abuse including track time and I would redline it all the time in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear even for no reason just to hear it her scream!! I never had any problems at all!!! I never had to taker her for any kind of work!! Until she was totalled!! :)
For some reason I do not trust this Mazda engine. I don't really know why. I just don't. Maybe time will change my mind. That's why I am so hesitant to mod this car.

^^^ sadly enough the mazda dealership could care less about SEMA. I like what sema is doing and appreciate it but the fact of the matter is, Sema dont mean s*** to Mazda.

If you dont want warranty issues, dont mod your car. Oh and dont "misuse" it either.

Mazda has been, and will continue to be sued by SEMA, and consumers. It is very unfortunate it happens that way, but its the truth. Mazda needs to realize this, as it is one of the main reasons they lose so much money.
