Possible trading P5 for MS3 questions

My questions are what advantages and disadvantages am i looking at.
I know MS3 has move power and a new car but how about ride hauling capacity etc. fuel mileage difference etc. thanks for any info.

its really good at hauling stuff around, i jsut got my rims installed and i had 4 rims with tires on them and 3 tires in the hatch with the seats down. gas milage is really good actually depending on how u drive, for the first time i got 27 mpg average because i didnt drive spirited

i get about 22-24 mpg from mixed driving (mostly city, though). even in city driving, it's very important how you use engine braking and the like. you can avoid 18-20mpg if you're just very careful about it.

EDIT: remember: fuel injected motors burn VERY little fuel when coasting...a lot less than idling, in fact...so, coast often when you're putzin around in the city...;)

When you say coasting, I hope you mean in gear. And it's because the injectors physically shut off when you're off throttle. Vehicle momentum will keep the engine turning, so fuel isn't needed. Clutch in or put it in neutral and you go to idle throttle levels.

This is one of the primary reasons why automatics get a mpg less than manuals. Many (most) automatics go into neutral the second you come off throttle rather than managing down shifts, so you end up burning fuel at idle throttle while just "coasting".

dude, just do the deal you know you want it! I did it and I haven't regreted a second of it!

Fuel economy is lower, hauling capacity is lower (but it's a hatch, so it's not bad). Styling is better, power is better, handling is better.

Drive them both. You're asking us to give you a run-down comparison of a hot-hatch to what is basically a small minivan. Go drive em' both, figure out if the Speed3 is big enough for you, figure out if you can afford to get 5 mpg less and pay for premium fuel, and figure out which you like to drive better.

yes, i meant to say "in gear" vs doing so in neutral. coasting in neutral = idling your engine, which is much less fuel efficient than coasting in gear!

thanks i am just looking at all positive and negative feedbacks. i have no car notes and don't want one but the ms3 is looking like it will be on it's way to my drive way soon. is the GT worth the extra$ ?

My brother inlaw has a P5. Honestly, it's a much nicer can than I expected it to be. Having said that, my Mazda 3 is nicer still. While it may be an unfair comparison to judge one car with 75k on it vs. another car with about 20k on it....I'll still say the 3 is much tighter and MUCH roomier in regard to passenger accommodations and storage. He gets considerably better gas mileage (about 6-7mpg better) and doesn't have to use high test. Then again, my car feels like it has the power of 3 P5s.

Is the GT worth it over the sport? Only you can answer that. IMO, the poor quality of the leather on the seats isn't worth it. If you want HIDs, rain sensing wipers, and LED tail lights...and it's worth the extra money, go for it. I've read a lot of complaints about the BOSE stereo. I went with no frills and bought a sport with nothing added. I'm happy I did.

The GT like SwampAss mentioned has all those extra goodies..

I'm a gizmo geek, and I like to have those little things just cause I can. This is the first car I've ever had leather in, and I love it. I guess I haven't experienced Mercedes/Lexus/BMW leather, or any other top notch leather, but I'm diggin it.

If I were you, go take a look at both the GT and Sport trim. Make sure the GT has all the options that way you can play with all those toys in there. Granted you won't use all of them, all the time. But you'll get a chance to see first hand what it does and how much you like it compared to not having it. I didn't get the NAV system simply because I didn't like it. I ended up getting a TOM TOM XL navi later down the road for 249.00. But if you must have the Navi option too; then that's your choice.

The GT options that don't come on the Sport that I use all the time are the HID's (no kidding eh? lol) Leather, given. Bose Stereo(could use a little more umph, but thats nothing that some sound deadening material can fix). I hardly use the auto-sensing wipers; and the auto on/off headlights.(is this available on the Sport?). Other than that, everything that comes on the GT are "nice to have's. If you think its worth the extra money, and you like it, go for it.

My question is, if you already paid off your P5, why not keep it, and just get an MS3 altogether, and have the best of both worlds?

Moving from a P5 to Mazda 3, I can tell that the Mazda 3 is more stable and powerful. The P5 can fit more stuff in the trunk, slightly more fun, but I can tell that the Mazda 3 is a much safer car in my opinion after my wife total a Mazda 3. If my wife is driving the P5 at that time, I believe she can't get away unhurt.

The Mazda 3 also more comfortable, a more refined car and with more features. I'm happy with the Mazda 3.
