Possible brake caliper replacements

So, I'm new to the forum because I could some help. I checked out another thread about seized rear brakes. I live in northern Canada and every year I have to take my calipers apart to free them up. I have 100k on the car and have replaced the front and rears at least twice, not to mention the warped rotors that happen when the brakes seize. At one point I couldn't order the calipers for 2 days, none in Ontario....they had to come in from Quebec. I believe they are just not made for the climate up here.

Now, a friend at work told me that the Altima calipers are a straight bolt on and they are of twin piston design. I'm sure someone here knows of alternate replacement caliper for this car that would be more reliable. Factory or aftermarket as long as its better.

Thanks for the help.

I think there was a large discussion about replacing rear calipers on protege5 2001-2003 with mazda 626 calipers, not sure what year 626, check out eBay and look at the pics to match up your caliper and then find out what year. I read it a long time ago, they found out that the 626's surface area was 10%-15% larger than OEM protege5's. I don't know about the front caliper's and I haven't had any luck re-finding these posts I read.

This pic shows the 626 caliper VS. the Protege5 caliper & you can see the size difference.
The biggest concern that I read was some people were unsure if the caliper might scrape up against the wheels, being that they are larger.
You can find these on eBay incld pads from $80/pr-$300/pr
Hope this helps.

Thanks dane.

Fortunately I was able to salvage the rotor, it wasn't warped, just had to get it turned. This is still an issue as it took a day for the caliper to come in. It was the slides as well as corrosion(or general crud) around the piston seal.

These brakes were not made for winters.(doh)

I would still appreciate some help if anyone has a bolt on replacement that would fit under stock rims, and in fact my winter rims are 14"(I have 1/4" clearance).

^first i ever heard about direct swaps with any other car...

Yeah, i keep cleaning & lubing more than i should have to....

Where should I take this discussion? The general forum? Aftermarket calipers get too big for my winter rims. However, they are due to be replaced in a year or 2, so could size up.

The slides are seizing, despite being serviced in the fall and spring. The caliper is also corroding around the piston. My buddy, he's a heavy diesel truck mechanic feels the caliper should have more pistons to help prevent the jamming.
