Positive saftey stops for shifters?

Those of you who own(ed) mustangs are probably familiar to what I'm talking about when it comes the short throw shifters with positive stops. These are adjustable bolts, basically that allow you to slam gears pretty much as fast as you can, without worrying about bending the forks. I have yet to see an import shifter that has this. Has anyone heard of any companies looking into making something like this for imports? I have no idea if this would even be possible, which could explain why we don't see them.

I'm bored, so I'm just thinking out lout...er...in print. LOL

there isnt a need for positive stops for FWD trannys. the Rutangs had top loader trannys that needed them or you can over shift. the FWD trannys have shift rods with stops build in.

I'd say there is need for safety stops on a FWD. I know for damn sure that a couple of us need them. I've already had a shift fork break once b/c of over shifting. And it'll happen on any FWD or RWD tranny. So, it'd be nice if you could do a little R&D on some safety stops for us.

I thought I had heard of people bending/breaking forks on FWD. So there IS a market for something like this. I would buy one if one was made.

I would also buy them. I can't afford $2500 to have a tranny rebuilt on the car again. I had to fight to get it repaired under warranty last time and I know they won't do it again.

hmm sounds like you need to lay off the wheaties!
i dont think there would be a huge market for this and most of the people wouldnt want to open up the tranny to have them installed. there isnt anything that could be installed outside the transmission. the chassis moves while the shifter assembly is somewhat stationary. thats how they can do them on toploader trannys.

best thing i can tell you is to mellow out on the one twoshift

The safety stops on a mustang are nothing more than 2 bolts in on the upper shifter housing(above the ball of the shifter). The purpose of them is to keep you from over shifting. why wouldn't that same set-up work on a FWD? It keeps you from moving the shifter further than needed. All you do is figure out how far you need to go to actually get it in gear, then turn the bolt so that it is snug against the shifter. I'm gonna see if I can come up with some kind of design for my car. If it works I'll send you the design.
