Yeah so i'm lookin to buy my first weapon. I narrowed it down to these two based on reviews. I wanted a gun small enough to carry easily and comfortably but still be a good and fun "all around" gun. so i sit here trying to decide between them, for me they are both comfortable. both shot great, i think the glock was more accurate but that was a buddys gun and the XD i shot was a dirty rental the shop had. also i rapid fired a 15 rnd mag through the glock and all were pretty much dead on. i didn't get a chance with the XD. glock has a one year warranty but the XD has a lifetime. although i might be able to get a military discount through a glock dealer and cut off like $200. so i think it pretty much is gonna boil down to price.

I was a real gun enthusiast during my middle school and early highschool years, and I remember when the XD came out.

When it came down to it, I still preferred the look of the glock.

although my knowledge is only from reading articles, as I have shot neither of the guns.

You'll need to facilite any online deal with a licensed gun dealer, so factor that added cost in with any online deal. A local gun shop might also have what you want for a good price.

Check out a Kel-Tec, as it will also fit the bill of what you are looking for in a first weapon. Its lightweight, concealable and effective.

Yeah, i was also thinkin of getting a kel-tec cuz they're cheap but some of the reviews i read basically called it a piece of s***. inaccurate, malfunctions. it would be good just to carry but i'm looking for a weapon that i can also take to the range and have fun with it. both the XD and the glock fit that.

I carry the Glock 19 9mm. My father also carries the 19. I've been firing at ranges with him since I was about 13. I have been a G fan since then. So I am very biased. H/E, you should also look into Sig Arms as well.
Regardless what you get, do NOT get a hand gun with the compensator. You discharge one round in the dark & you will be blinded. The flame pops out the top and there goes your night vision & if you miss...you will be an easy target since you won't be able to see s***.

I ve had the glock and liked it. Good gun lots of accs. and options. But i also had a cz 75 that was very loved and showed me a lot about guns. Have been wanting to check out the cz 75 sp-01. Have only read reviews but it sounds good.

the Springfield XD has been the Hand gun of the year since they came out.
and if its your 1st gun glocks are known for slide bite! XD's are just a better all around weapon.

Oh yeah...slide bite.

Also, if you are not familiar with a tactical safety (aka trigger safety)...you need to really think out the Glock. Not sure about the Springfield and its safety set up. I cant tell you how many times I've almost shot myself in the ******* foot pulling from my hip/leg holster.
The Glock is no joke & not for amatuers. Buyer beware.

Any other Glock owners out there? You guys can speak on it.

What is your finger doing on the trigger when drawing?

trying to shoot his foot off, duh.

I stick to glock's, they aren't very conventional. But once you buy one you will never buy anything else. They are over engineered in the best way.

And as long as you've fired a glock subcompact and don't mind that your pinky and possibly ring finger is hanging off the lower receiver than go for it.

My only other advice would be don't get a 9mm. Why are you purchasing this weapon? Def not target shooting cause it's a sub compact. But most likely self defense. If thats the case then consider something bigger than the 9mm, doesn't do what you would expect it to do. And when you're looking for that one chance in a life time that you may need this for self defense and you only have a few rounds, lets hope those rounds do there job.

Need to put more rounds & range time on my 21C, but I've been quite happy with it. That being said, haven't had an occassion to carry it (No CCW permit) so no issues as far as that. I think out of the first 500-600 rounds I've put through it, I've had one stovepipe jam (Fiochi ammo - Winchester White Box and a stash of vietnam-era surplus ammo have been trouble free) sofar. Been really happy with it, easy to disassemble/clean.

I can't bring it up at work (stupid network filter) but there's a hilarious webpage by this guy who's been trying to break his glock - sofar he's dropped it from an airplane, run it over with a truck & burried it in 5 gallon buckets full of sand/rock salt/baby powder+water/dirt and let it sit; fired a bunch of rounds through it and still hasn't cleaned it (beyond taking the slide/barrel assembly off and knocking out the crap from it) - it's still working. Tried the baby powder or sand test with a H&K USP and it failed outright.

Hey I know man...

Have you ever been through a combat arms speed course??
adrenalin + ego makes ya do some things you wouldn't normally do.
In my case, I'm preplanning and finger comes close. ;)

What you need to do is go look as many gun as you can and if possible test as many also. Find the one that fits your hands the best. Guns are like shoes, sort of. You have to be able to handle it as best as possible so you can have the best accuracy and control. Looks should be the last thing in you mind when it come to choosing a self defense weapon. Me personally don't like "blocks". The grip is uncomfortable for me.

lol i always thought that the "All Americans have Guns" was just a silly stereotype...
Didnt know you guys were that serious about it.

aight,m so i just bought the XD since the guy said the g19's are backordered for like ever. lol anyway it came to $482 w/ tax so thats an awesome price. brand new.

also to answer some questions. the sub compact has a trigger saftey and grip saftey. also it comes with a 10 rnd mag and 16 rnd mag. and springfield has a deal going on, buy a new XD, send in some paperwork and get two mags and carrier for free. i plan on using it to carry concealed when i go for my permit, but also have fun with it at the range. thats why i got 9mm, rounds are cheap so i can acually shoot it at the range, not a lot of kick especially since it's a sub compact. and hey, if they don't go down with 11 or 17 rnds then i was ****** no matter what i had.
