Need to put more rounds & range time on my 21C, but I've been quite happy with it. That being said, haven't had an occassion to carry it (No CCW permit) so no issues as far as that. I think out of the first 500-600 rounds I've put through it, I've had one stovepipe jam (Fiochi ammo - Winchester White Box and a stash of vietnam-era surplus ammo have been trouble free) sofar. Been really happy with it, easy to disassemble/clean.

I can't bring it up at work (stupid network filter) but there's a hilarious webpage by this guy who's been trying to break his glock - sofar he's dropped it from an airplane, run it over with a truck & burried it in 5 gallon buckets full of sand/rock salt/baby powder+water/dirt and let it sit; fired a bunch of rounds through it and still hasn't cleaned it (beyond taking the slide/barrel assembly off and knocking out the crap from it) - it's still working. Tried the baby powder or sand test with a H&K USP and it failed outright.

hahaha nice. yeah i shot the H&K USP and it was a piece of s***. didn't feel good at all

aight,m so i just bought the XD since the guy said the g19's are backordered for like ever. lol anyway it came to $482 w/ tax so thats an awesome price. brand new.

also to answer some questions. the sub compact has a trigger saftey and grip saftey. also it comes with a 10 rnd mag and 16 rnd mag. and springfield has a deal going on, buy a new XD, send in some paperwork and get two mags and carrier for free. i plan on using it to carry concealed when i go for my permit, but also have fun with it at the range. thats why i got 9mm, rounds are cheap so i can acually shoot it at the range, not a lot of kick especially since it's a sub compact. and hey, if they don't go down with 11 or 17 rnds then i was ****** no matter what i had.

I'll just chalk this up as you not knowing any better.
Do not keep 1 in the chamber with a full clip. I dont care how many rappers say you should. Problems occur because that weapon is still loaded with a live round inside. If you have a family (or kids that come over), I suggest you look into the safety bullet if you want to keep "one in the chamber". Takes me 2 clearing cycles (2 seconds somtimes less) and BAM!! Two to the bad guys chest.
Chances are you WILL forget to properly clear your weapon. Accidents DO happen.

I agree. I keep my guns in a safe with the slide locked aft and a full magazine in them. This way all I have to do is hit the slide release and I'm ready. My M4 is a different story. I like making noise with it.

I haven't fired a gun in years. It wasn't a good idea to have them around after my divorce way back when so I sold them. My tastes are much more traditional. I had an S&W 5904. That's a 9mm dual stack magazine. I upgraded the sights and kept it loaded with Winchester silver tips. When I bought those rounds the first time, I told the guy at the shop that I wanted a round that wouldn't go through a bad guy then through the wall behind him and take out someone in the next room. It was just a happy coincidence that they make really big holes as they exit.
I really miss my Ruger Blackhawk 357, though. That was fun to shoot at the range. With the cost of 357 ammo, I did most of the shooting with 38s, but always made sure to burn at least one load of the big guys through it. Oddly enough, with the "plowshare" handgrip, the only way you could shoot a 357 without killing your hand was to hold it down low, like a damn gunfighter shooting from the hip, otherwise the sharp bottom rear edge of the grip tried to slice off the heel of your hand.
If you really want to do target shooting for cheap and have some fun, invest in a 22 target pistol. Shoot all day for very short money. Sure, it doesn't make a big boom, but the satisfaction of shooting a tight group is still there.
Of course, it wasn't as much fun as the time I got to shoot the Casul. Now that is a weapon with some stopping power.

i'm military, and I'm infantry . everytime we go to a range when you are on the firing line you lock and load a mag, and don't clear until you come off the line. i also spent 15 months in afghanistan with a round chambered in my M4 anytime i had a mag locked. I am anal about weapons safety and muzzle awareness. anyone who's been around me knows this, even if the weapon has not left my hand, if it's been more than a couple minutes i will clear it again before i do anything with it. you must be confident with your weapon system, if you are not then thats when accidents happen. if you carry your weapon to protect yourself, you are stupid to not have a round chambered ready to go. in a life or death situation milliseconds count. what if you had to use your non firing hand to fend off an attacker? how would you chamber a round? again this is where confidence on your weapon comes in. at home when it would not be on my person i would not have a round chambered and may not even have a mag in. weapons are desinged to be locked and loaded waiting for the trigger to be pulled. otherwise, whats the point?

Yeah, i was also thinkin of getting a kel-tec cuz they're cheap but some of the reviews i read basically called it a piece of s***. inaccurate, malfunctions. it would be good just to carry but i'm looking for a weapon that i can also take to the range and have fun with it. both the XD and the glock fit that.

Kel-Tec's are hardly pieces of s***. Not only are they fine for defensive purposes but also at the range.

Good thread, especially since I just recently passed my Handgun Safety Certificate test. My wife is cool with it too so I'm thinking about getting the XD Tactical 5" barrel and doing the extra magazine offer too. I figured with the 5" inch barrel it'll be a bit more controlled than the 4" inch. bad thing is that I live in CA and I can't get the newer XDm. California gun laws slurp a big one.

I apologize, didn't know your were also military.
Of course if you are out & about I wouldnt expect you to not be ready.
My response was about home use. Sorry if there was any confusion.

About the whole round in the chamber and a full MAGAZINE...realize that a firearm w/out a round ready to fire is just a paperweight.

The average self-defense shooting happens at less then 10'. You think you can draw and cycle the slide to chamber a round in the time it takes a BG, who most likely got the drop on you (so your actions are reactionary) to cover 10' (less than two seconds)?

Practice safe handling and carry with a round in the pipe. Its useless otherwise. If you are afraid of a live round in the chamber, you shouldn't be carrying, IMHO.

Two good discussions on this subject:

Be safe!

I said when in the house be cautious...out on the streets its kill or be killed.

When I carry, there is a round in the chamber. In the house, slide locked aft with a full magazine in.
