Point in wheel well

Anyone know what the little point in the molding of the back wheel well is for?

I'll check the other side, but it doesn't look like a defect, and I haven't been hit (not so much as a scratch anywhere, including the tires).

Ok... I was probably looking at the wrong thing.. molding does look damaged. I was thinking of the factory holes on the tire side of that molding that are removed for mud guard install.

Just checked. It's present on both sides, and definitely a design element. It's about the same place where mud flaps are on my husband's truck, so that would make some sense.
