lazer blue mazdaspeed protege
hey guys,
I am new to this post so please bare with me. I just bought a mazdaspeed protege last month and every time I get going from a stop, the rpms go up to about 2,000 and drop to about 1500. This is so annoying, the only thing I can do to get rid of this is to start from a rev of 3,000 or so and I don't want to do that every f'ing time. I had a P5 before this and did not have this problem. If anyone knows a solution to this problem please let me know.
thanks,
ps. I have already had it flashed, other than that it is completely stock.

if the rpms are dropping while you are accelerating either clutch in a bit when it happens or add more gas...

edit: in not out ^^

Im sorry, what does it mean to clutch out a bit? and yes the p5 was a stick

Yeah, like the others here I'm not really following you......it sounds like a normal stick shift driving characteristic. It's gonna bog a little if you're not giving it enough gas.

i think he meant clutch IN, as is pushing down on the clutch pedal to disengage the clutch from the flywheel. you're not new to driving a manual right?

well what I mean is the reason it is losing power is because you are releasing the clutch too fast or you are not giving it enough gas (usually it's a combination of the two). Just practice driving stick and eventually you'll get smooth at it

maybe I wasn't clear. from a stop I get the car going, but and as it is accelerating the rpms dip and the car slows for a second before it gets going again. Is that normal? and again I don't remember having that problem with the p5.

Is the gearing the same in the MSP? It may be that 1st gear is a little taller and you're not used to giving it more gas than you had to in the P5.

I know the MSP has a heavier duty clutch, perhaps you haven't adjusted to that?

maybe i just haven't fooled around with it enough, but ist the clutch going to burn if let it spin before engaging?
the rpms get to 2,000-2200 before dropping.

and have you let the clutch all the way out by then? and yes, the clutch will burn out eventually (in a few years though), but so long as you're not slipping the clutch badly, you'll be perfectly fine. just play around with it, you'll get the hang of it quick.

I understand what you're saying now. As long as the clutch is all the way out and you're at a constant or increasing feed on the gas pedal, what your car is doing is not normal. MAYBE if it wasn't flashed that could explain it but with the flash I'm stumped on what else it could be. I'd take it to the dealer.

hey,
I am really new to this whole forum thing so please don't think I am a complete retard if I ask what "lol" means.
I have read several posts in a lot of different forums that use that word.
