please help...im screwed...no pun intended

alright here's the deal...i have had my license for a few months and just this friday i purchased a brand new 2003 black mp5...the first thing i decided to do was remove the front license plate frame and holder.
so i take off the frame and there is the holder with two gold screws...the one on the left comes out fine...but the one on the right is stuck and will not unthread...i have tried what seems like every approach...socket wrenches wont work...pulling wont work...i even removed the guard right under the radiator to see what i could do...
but there is foam in the way and it is not accesible from behind...i no this sounds ridiculous but if u have had the same problem or have any ideas please let me no before i have to go back to the dealer to let them fix it...thnx

Did you try grabbing it with a pair of pliers and pulling it out as you twist?

sry i cant buy your car...but im from SoCal....well the valley of hell to put it bluntly...lemme no if u gots shop er hobby hook ups...when it comes to cars i always like to have as many friends as possible

Try wedging (another) smaller flat head screw driver hunder the head of the screw while turning the screw. As you attempt to loosen the screw, slowly twist the smaller screw driver, thusly partially extracting the screw.

Hope this helps ya.

Damn, Looks like we're all from Nor-Cal.

BTW, Welcome to the club, blackjack! (drinks)

so the problem is it wont turn at all? OR it will turn but doesnt come out?

if it turns but wont come out taking a flat head screw driver or something even flatter if possible and prying while you twist should work, just put something under it so when you use leverage is wont damage the body of the car.

If it wont turn at all, hm, how hot is it where you are? I know this sounds weird but techically heat makes things expand, so if you cool the screw enough for it to shrink even a fraction of a millimeter it shoudl be alot easier to turn, I used a piece of dry ice I had and held it against a screw that would come out(not on a car though, in a house) and it worked. Otherwise I would say Wd-40 but I dont know if that will do anything to the surrounding parts.

best of luck

hey man really appreciate the advice...i will definately try both...cause i live in the valley in socal...and it was frikin 92 today....and it was out in the sun cause i had this garage sale...i will try it tomoro morning b4 school
thnx again

get yourself a socket and put it on an extension....get a friend over and have them pull out on the frame while you unscrew the screw with the socket on the extension....that way you are applying outward presure on the bottom of the screw as you turn it.....that should do the trick.

THAT HAPPENED TO ME. the thing holding the screw in place broke. only way now is to remove the front bumper and remove the plate and screw that way. good luck. - chris

well black wat u do is get a sledge hammer and just yell FOUR and take a hard swing at ur front bumber

-i never take my own advice ;)

why are you taking off the license plate holder?

California law - you have to have all the plates you receive from the DMV mounted and visible at all times - one in the front and one in the back.

it's in the book you get from the DMV - or you can look it up online.

you just got your license...don't get your first citation because you wanted your car to look better.

putting it in your lower grill would prevent fresh air from coming in to your radiator...

not a good idea...and personally, it looks pretty mofubufugly.

Who gives a flying crap what the state of CA says about front plates? I don't run one, never have and never will. When that law is enforced for ALL vehicles (including MB, BMW, Vet, Porche etc.). Then I'll consider putting mine on. Just like tinted windows, It's like a frickin 110 deg outside and I'm not supposed to tint my front windows so I don't roast on the jammed up freeways? Like hell. I say do what you want to your ride and screw the BS revenue making laws passed by uptight old farts.

Whew <rant off>

I say do what you want to your ride and screw the BS revenue making laws passed by uptight old farts.

that's fine. do what you want...just don't complain when you get cited for violations...

there's no way around the system...the only way around it is to not follow it, and if you don't follow it, you'll only make fat pockets fatter and your own pockets thinner...and they'll still end up making you do something you didn't want to.

suck it up. it's only a license plate. think of it this way...a convict made it just for you.
