Played with an STI

I was driving home and came along a silver STI with exhaust and a BOV. We were toying around a little bit on the freeway. We both exited and found a good straight road. We raced twice. The first time I jumped him by about a half car length which was unfair but he wasn't catching up to me. After that race he was asking what I had done to my car. I tried to tell him my mods but who knows if he heard. Then he said, and I quote " I had trouble keeping up with you." We raced again. This time it was fair. We both went after the three honks and we were dead even until I shifted into 3rd where he gained about a half car length on me but as I was was ripping through 3rd I was slowly gaining. I then slowed down cuz I didn't wanna go to jail tonite but I'm fairly confident I would have stayed with him if not passed him in 4th gear. We talked after the race and he gave me lots of compliments. What the hell? I thought I would get smoked by him. I'm sure someone is going to say BS or he was a bad driver but I saw what I saw and was very surprised. I'm running 9 to 9.5 Psi (depending on the gear), GHL full turboback, FMIC, DSM AFC, CAI, and other stuff in my Sig that doesn't make me faster. Anyways, a great experience.

I ran with a sti in town. There was a open lane in front of him and he gunned it, i stayed in same gear probably 100-200 yds and we were neck and neck. He never gunned it again. LMAO. So i believe its possible to run w/ a STI.

Nice Run/Kill.

I guess its not too out of reach. My car = 2843 Lbs and ~210 WHP. Sti stock (I'm guessing) 3250 lbs and ~240 to 250 WHP so from a roll it's not that unbelievable.

i've heard and seen some of the ,msps beat stock stis all the time in dallas , there is even a video of I think Sam's car beating a white sti

Yeah it does feel good to beat a 300hp car, I doubt that they are 300 though cause the EVO is a lot harder to pull on. I had a pull with both (seperately) and the EVO walked me but I pulled hard on the STI.. It's still nice to see that our cars modded can hang with much higher HP cars. I'm still looking for another chance with an EVO...

this is very good to know because me and a friend, who has a stock sti, have a little thing going on right now where my car usually gets dissed and seeing that i have the same mods as you makes me feel better lol

did you guys go off the line? that would be suprising

Then add in the fact that you probably are a better driver, and got more use of your power then he did, and it's totally believable. Of course the reality here is, you are modded, he is not. Let an STI guy match you mods for mods, Then he's pushing well over 300whp. I'm not a fan of the stock vs modded car races. It really has no validity, but I guess that's the only way for a MSP to challenge an STI. You got to be modded, the STI can't, so staying up with one for a MSP owner must still feel pretty cool. Just watch out for those Stage 2 or above STIS. It won't be pretty. Nice job. ):

No, both races were from a roll. One of my best friends has an 04 STI with an HKS catback exhaust. I'm going to brag to him about it and I'm sure we will race soon. I would never race an STI from a dig.

The STI had an exhaust and from the loudness of it maybe more than a catback. Also had a BOV (which doesn't make the car faster ) but I've heard a bov on an STI can hinder the performance.

thaught so...let us know how it goes againtst your friend (drinks)

Completely believeable! I remember when my car was stock. To be honest, it was a dog and didn't have much top end even with 271hp (210whp). All wheel drive is great for launching but for roll races, it sucks.

Nice kill.. Looks like you need one or two more mods and you'll own him next time!

of course that is the only way to hang with him, but look at the price tag difference! If you add all his mods together + car, does that equal the price of a STi, no way. So I say that it is all props to the msp to hang with him, I mean isn't that what we are tuning for to be surprising in our little econoboxes with little price tags? heavily modded subies and evos are doing the same thing to $100K+ cars, thats the object.

I agree. But I also understand that his car with the same mods would kill me.

nice run bro, I bet you had a big smile on your face
I had a similar race with on 07' sti from a really low role. We slowly rolled through the beginning of 1st gear and hit it around 18mph or so and he jumped a car or more ahead instantly. I was able to hook 2nd gear nicely and jumped right back to his quater panel and the reeled back to his passenger door by the end of 3rd. Then I slowly (very slowly) pulled away in 4th but then he started to come back a little. Note that i'm at 11psi and he was completely stock but it was all good

STI is a quick car stock, its quite out of the ordinary to have a "little" Protege pull on it. Just like if an STI beat a Corvette the STI driver would go around saying I beat a fast car. This is what modding is about. You take what you have and make it faster than cars that normally would beat you.

Thats what I am saying, I mean the STi really is just a heavily modded WRX right, and we are a lightly modded Protege that you added a little more mods to. Nothing in comparison to what STi did with the WRX, they got the full package, so I still give you tons of props.
