Plate black out

This one is crazy, but, does anyone else have a really bad feeling sometimes when you do something stupid or piss another person off on the road because your driving like an ass hole. I have that feeling sometimes and just wish there was someway that i could flip a switch and the liscence plate goes bye - bye. I am pursuing this and am wondering if anyone has any ideas. I have read some about a film that when an electrice charge goes through it it blacks out, other wise it is clear. You put something like that over the plate and your set. Let me know what you think, just one of those crazy idea - prob orginated from being drunk one night, who knows, but thanks guys!

i think you want pulled over in a serious way! but ill tell you what, if i see you do it man that would be the ******* s***!

It can be done...My dad is really into older custom cars(50's&60's) and I remember him telling me that a lot of them use retractable rear license plates for when they are at car shows.
I only found one, but this will give you an idea. I would love to do this some day:
Retract-A-Plate

it could be done im sure...this guy in our car club, he drives ambulances for a living, and the new one he drives, has windows that black out when he hits a button, so no one can peer in.

when he pulls up to meetings in it, he hits the switch, and the windows clear up...it's cool as ****!

Yah if you ever do this dont do it while cops are near.

Had the problem in AZ for a while where I had one of those license plate covers that refracted the radar for a radar gun so he couldnt nail me aiming at my plate(one of the most common spots they aim)

If the cops an asshole he will track you do anyway though, and gives him more reason to be pissed instead of nice. Also the newer radar some of them use doesnt get affected y those old plates.

Im pretty sure if you used anything like that near the cops, you might end up in a jail or with a huge ticket, it would be more for other people and such so they can't identify my vehicle.

Acutally it's laser, not radar, that they use to bounce off the plates.

Photo radar is affected by some plates which blur the numbers so they cannot issue proper tickets. Having these plates on in areas where photo radar is used will lead to more trouble than it's worth.

Regular K and Ka-band radar are not affected by the plates. They simply use a doppler type of send/receive which calculates speed. There's no need for any type of flat surface, it just needs an object to come into it's cone shaped area to work it's magic.
Most of these types of radar are detectable with a good radar unless the officer uses a technique called "instant on". With instant on, the radar is placed in a standby (ready to shoot) mode but does not emit any type of signal until the transmit button is pressed on the remote. In this instance, it's normally too late.

Laser is direct on and it needs a flat, reflective surface to bounce back on which is why license plates are the perfect target. This is one reason why areas with laser guns are a bit more taxing on those without front LPs.. The officer must be stationary and they must look through a "scope" which targets your car specifically. If you're hit with laser, there's no way out; period.

Used to be a Police Explorer for two years.. Amazing what you can pick up in that amount of time by riding out with different cops & learning a LOT about law enforcement. Plus, I've wanted to be a cop since I was a kid. When some kids were out playing, I was looking through police supply catalogs and planning out my "dream police car" with all kindsa strobes, fancy lightbars, etc.

Those of you in the States are lucky to have only the license plate at the back of the car.
Unfortnately for us, in Ontario we need them in both front and back. I think the plate switch over in possible at the trunk. But much more difficult for a flip upfront on a bumper. For a bumper, it qill require a lot of customizing and modifing. It might end up not looking like a Protege front end after the conversion.

For those who are increibly smart, if you flip your licence plate over, someone brillant enough can still read your plate upside down and hunt you down for whatever reason they are after you for.

Someone needs to invent a way to hide the plate completely out of sight at a touch of a button and i'll say that's amazing! Good luck with an invention like that

Just get a smoked license plate cover. They are $5 at Discount Auto. I've had them on both of my cars & I convinced my friend to get one for his WRX.

If that's not dark enough for you, try spraying it with NightShades. You'll be risking police attention though.
