Have a 2006 mazda3 5 door 2.3L with about 68k miles on it, was merging on to the highway and bang! engine ping like nobody's buisness. Took it in to the dealer and it turns out it was a broken piston bearing. Under lubrication was the problem. I have changed my oil with 5w20 fully synthetic every 5k miles since i bought it and put a new filter in each time. Wondering if there is a problem with many 2.3l mazda3s. Is there a fix or anything to change that i am doing other than checking the oil more frequently? It was just under 1 US quart low when they examined it, yet oil was still touching the dipstick between the low and full mark. Luckily i have an extended bumper to bumper warranty with the car so I am getting a rebuilt motor with 58k miles on it. I love this car and i dont want to get rid of it i am just sketched out now due to something breaking due to a mechanical defect this early in the cars life. Thanks in advance
