Pillar Pod And Gauges, This Is How It's Done!

Ok yeah bascially night picutres are a no go, I took them and you can't see anything, with the flash off it's to dark, and with the flash on it makes it look like day, so I don't know, I'll take another stab at it tomorrow night.

*bump*

still waiting for night pics. BTW after comparing a TON of online stores that sell autometer gauges, I have the site with the BEST prices. on one of the guages, (electric fuel pressure) the savings was still over $15 from optauto.com :D

PM me if u want it.

How did you wire the lighting for the gauges? Are the lights always on or did you connect them to the dimmer ?

I have an autometer boost gauge (the light aluminum one) and a single pod. I did wire mine to the dimmer. I spliced into the wires near the dimmer unit. There are 3 wires. One is black. The other two are blue and green (with white stripes if I remember, anyway just use the 2 that aren't black. I don't use the dimmer much myself but if I do, now it works.

My gauge pod is painted metalic black to match the exterior since I couldn't find spray paint to match the trim. I'm actually kinda disappointed in the pod. Approx. $22 and there is a gap between the pod and the trim along the top edge where trim shows through.

Also, I tried double faced molding tape and it stays on for about an hour then gradually peels off. I didn't want to screw into my trim but it looks like I will have to. :( I may even just trash it and get a full A-Pillar singlee pod if I can find one.

alright one question there Feakhelek, why did you need to tie into two wires if there is only one wire coming off the gauge. I don't know much about wiring so i need guidance. Also has any one tied into the fog light switch. I was told the green wire but others said it won't dim. I am trying to figure this out before I do the wiring. And yes I have searched a few times.

My gauge has two wires for the light. I thought that I could run one from the switch and ground the other one to the frame, but that does not work. I had to run 2 wires from the gauge, down the A-Pillar, and to the back of the switch panel where the fogs and dimmer live. Again, there are 3 wires going to the dimmer switch. I tried all combinations for them and found that using the green and blue wires did the trick.

I am not certain that this is the best way to do it, but it works for me and the dimmer is functional. I don't know if some gauges only have one wire. If so, then the gauge would have to contact the frame to ground.

P.S. I did not cut the wires to the dimmer. I stripped a roughly 1/4 inch section and then wove in the new wires and taped them.

Here are some pics of my Defi gauges. I just got them in on Saturday. I wanted to thank everyone on this forum that has posted about how to install, the advice was great. I am especially greatful for the hint on the paint code, 15353 Light Titanium. (Tad light, but if you get upset about this you have other issues than paint not matching)

Anyway, thanks everyone.

I like the way those gauges look at night (even though they don't match the stock red gauges).

I also like the way a 2-gauge pod looks MUCH better than the 3-gauge....3's just too many IMO on the pillar.

Damm those gauges are smoooth. Its funny too cause they aren't that expensive. Must buy Defi **drooling**

Defi's are 52mm, which is the only reason I didn't buy them. I've seen 52mm gauges and I just like the 60mm way too much..

I want to put gauges in my car.. But i dont know how to wire them.. Anyone In So cal want to help me in 2 weeks? If not i think i will put them in for looks.. heheheh.. Please help

i dont live in so. cal. but if you've any common sense, you could do it yourself with the right directions.
