Pics of my new ride....56K BEWARE, HI RES PICS

Wow, that's a rare car, it's un-riced!

$1,800 sounds reasonable. I myself would have tried to get a 1st gen Protege LX, as you can get one for less than that and it's faster out of the box, and it has torque. Oh, I did do that, lol.

ugh, k20a3 for the lose.

buy a gsr motor and turbo the s*** out of it. you'll be able to learn a LOT about the car if you DIY, and you won't waste your dough on a hunk of crap (see k20a3).

you chose well, as you can double the amount of existing miles and it will still run. don't concentrate on modding yet though -- if you're only 16 and you could just barely afford the car, do not dig yourself into the modding grave. it took me 2 blown motors and a blown trans to realize i needed to back off.

drive safe and be contenet you made a very smart investment (as far as a car is concerned) with your money.

Nothing's wrong with a K20a3. It's not as good as the more expensive A2 or J-spec K20A. but it's still a VERY reliable 160 hp, 132 torque 2 liter. It's still DOHC, and the only thing limiting it compaired to the others is the fact that is only has a VTEC camshaft on the intake side. It's a 9.8:1 compression and from everyone's experience, it loves boost more than the A2 or the A variant... and it'll still get 30 MPG if you keep your foot out of it.

He can still do it himself, He'll just have a newer, more reliable, low mileage, high potential engine to do it from.

Saying an engine is a hunk of crap without something to back you up isn't the best advice...

does the new si motor or the other acura 2.4l bolt up or not yet attempted?

Are you talking about the K20z from the 06? If so, there's gonna be issues with the drive-by-wire throttle.

The 2.4l acura engine is the K24 series. Yes, they bolt up directly to anything that came with a K-series and they're swapped more frequently now.

Thats basicly what I was asking but in n00b to honda terms.

Getting rid of it for something else surely is not your way of showing people how awesome it is.

Surely, if he is looking for performance, a turbo B18 will give the best power/dollar ratio. Hell, even an N/A B18 will make better numbers than an N/A A3.

I surely disapprove of the A3 after removing the head from one. It's clear the engine was designed for economy, not power. No one in their right mind would swap it into an EK unless it was handed to them. Unless of course, he wants to do some major, MAJOR headwork and throw a bunch of boost at it. From what i have seen both in person and on forums, the A3 is about as hopeless as you can get. Hell, i'd rather turbo the D16 that's already there.

I'm not saying it's the best, i'm saying it's a good engine with good potential and i'm selling it. I'm not 'getting rid of it,' I'm just swapping for a higher horsepower engine/tranny that cost $6000.

I'm not bashing other engines, either. If he wants to run a turbo, high revving 1.8 monter, then by all means. If he wants a better engine than his out the box that'll hold him over till he get's older and makes some more money than he can get mine.

and yes, the A3 is tuned for a balance of power and economy (a lil more towards economy). But with Hondata and a few mods you can reverse that.

I could argue this point longer, but it's pointless because we're in the wrong thread. The kid bought an older civic in beautiful condition, likes it, and when I offered, is interested in my low mileage new Si engine. I'm sure he knows what it is, or will know, before he buys and he alone can make that decision.

Me and you going back and forth talking about honda engines on a Mazda forum when you own a Nissan in the Off Topic section under a thread about a proud purchased car... doesn't that seem off to you?

It's the off topic section so it' isn't too far out there. Off the original post..maybe ;)

What does me owning a Nissan have to do with anything?

P.S. You should know that staying on-topic is not a skill we IL people have.

well, i only have $110 now, and i need to buy some x-mas presents...

eh, take you're time. :) I'm not doing anything till middle of next year anyway. And I need to buy a house first, so who knows... A garage is the ultimate car mod.

im not at all impressed with the car. i AM however, impressed with your ability to save up money and buy your own car, albiet a used one (looks good after your wax job) and not rely on mommy and daddy.

you will be more successful in life because your parents taught you to save money and do things for yourself instead of getting handed things all your life. kudos to you, and more so, to your parents for raising a smart kid.
