Pics of my MSM

not in my opinion.. you get parts to prepare for others... that way you are never at the edge, so close to causeing damage... besides new FMIC (~$400) add a MBC for $50 and there ya go. I think it will be VERY easy to max the efficiency of the intercooler.

add this to the fact that you may not MAX the efficiency of the current intercooler, but heatsoak will get to you.

please show me where you can get a MSM intercooler upgrade for $400. thats foolish.

The intercooler is still functional and nowhere near it's efficiency limits. Intake and exhaust will always yield better results than just throwing an intercooler on there. Look at the MSP's with bigger intercoolers...little to know gain because none (very few) of the cars even make enough power to need a FMIC that big.

dont upgrade the intercooler until you max out it's efficiency...replacing parts before their limits is stupid.
That statement is entirely way too dumb for me to let pass. You're saying it's stupid to replace parts before 'their limits'. Okay. What about an intake? The stock intake works fine in 99% of cars, especially N/A. Why change the intake? It's not like you're going to be pushing the limit of the stock one. Exhaust? Headers? Both of which you wouldn't replace because you wouldn't be exceeding the limits they were designed for.

What exactly did you mean because I *know* that statement cannot mean what it came across as.

you can easily find a universal intercooler that can be made to fit for $400, hence the "~" before the $400.

its in the proper location already (front mount, not a stupid side mount) and it would be nothing or any person with some skills to replace.

I dont know hwy you insist on calling my advice stupid, or foolish, because doing so only makes you look foolish. I advise you desist

its always noobs like you who insist if you cant buy a bolt on part then parts done exist... WISE UP! if you think there are no parts available for the MSM then you should of been around when the MP3 first came out... I WAS, and there was NOTHING, but we all made do. go read a bunch of threads from back in 2001, you'll understand then

I love the MSM...however is it just me or do the 17's look just way to big...
They should have given the msm a lighter, better performing 16in wheel.
Lets see pics of ur msm with the Kosei's....

intake on a turbo car yields better results then an upgraded intercooler? man this is news to me! i guess thats why most drag cars run no filters or intakes on their turbos?

hey eric, any issue regarding installing the roll bar? did the windblocker/rear speaker get in the way???
A windblock from an older car would work, but the newer windblock (with the intregrated speaker) dind't work with the rollbar. It's sitting under my bed. And before you ask... Nope, the speakers didn't do a d@mn thing.. they shoot squarely into the vinyl on the seatbacks

An intake is just a restriction. The less the restriction, the more power obviously. Drag cars run no filter, but you wouldn't wnat that on the street. If your stock intake is a big restriction, then yeah you'd get a bigger power increase from that.

well here's hoping that Mazda will make minor changes for '05 MSMs so that the rear speakers aren't in such illogical locations, lol.

they've already listed the changes for '04... New colors, redesigned wheels, flip-style key... No moving of speakers :(

I'll have some more Pictures with the Kosei's at teh next autoX...

I have the same car and hove gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it. How do you like the roll bar? My dilema is wanting the style bar look, but the roll bar function. Was it pretty invasive to install? Thanks!
Chris

I have a 2001 with a Hard Dog Extreme roll bar and it doesn't interfere with the seat at all. I'm pretty tall(6'2"), so seat travel was something I was worried about.

Being 5'8" and 165lbs, the Miata is an absolutely perfect fit for me. I worry more about having to tear up the interior to get one of these in than space etc. The Hard Dog Extreme is definitely the nicest looking of the functional bars. I'm hoping for something that looks more like the style bars, but offers the roll bar protection. Can't have your cake, I guess... I wonder if it's a lateral stiffness issue that forces the two sides of the roll bars to be connected so high? Did you install that thing yourself? If not, what was the cost and how much permanet demolition was done to the car innards? Another concern - the MSM has these silly rear speakers directly behind the seat, anyone know if this interferes with the roll bars at all? Thanks... kinda new here, trying to figure more out about this car. Loving it so far, still ready for more power, though. Is 250 at the wheels too much to ask??

I'm with Tulsa boy on this one.

The stock IC on the MSM heatsoaks real fast on those 90 degree days.
It's not much bigger than the MSP IC, which was proven to heat soak after 3 dyno pulls.

Looks like Bill Cardell and the Flyin Miata boys already have some nice upgrades out that will do a noticeable improvement over stock without driveability issues.

OTOH, be sure to give a good think to a fan upgrade if you go front mount.
Need to be able to force air through the radiator and not have it spill around the IC.
I need all the air I can get on my Miata, even with a oversized AL radiator.

BTW, that is the prettiest MSM I have seen. Most excellent choice in color.
Rumor has it that an 05 Miata color choice will be the Lava Orange from the 3.
I chose a Lava O over the Ti Gray for my 3 with no regrets.

^I'm waiting for the 05 Lava Orange MSM!!!

with the NC Miata most likely becoming bigger (and heavier), this may be the last chance to get a new 'pure roadster' ;)

2004.5MSM, have you looked into the Hard Dog "deuce"?
It looks a lot like a Racing Beat Style bar, but it's a true rollbar...a lot like Boss Frog, but for about 2/3 the price. :)
I installed the bar myself with the help of a couple of friends. The toughest part of the install was convincing myself that it's OK to cut up the interior panels. I finally did it, and I couldn't be more stoked with the results. H/D even sends a template with the bar so it's hard to f-ck the cuts up.
Also, I think your speakers are fine where they are. The rollbar bolts onto the seatbelt towers and the frame of the car, under the wheel wells.
