Picking Up Our 08 Today

Or @ ~96Km/hr, eh? ;)

Hey, I'm Scottish, I know what 60mph is - including conversion ;)

We got dumped with about 9" (or is that 230mm :)) of snow overnight, so the missus isn't out drving today (she's all peeved that it got dirty yesterday when the snow started!).

I'll take it for a spin and let you know.

That was one of the reasons waiting for a 5AT as opposed to the 4AT - the highway speed rev's were pretty high and and we felt that it 'needed' to change up a gear.

I knew that Avatar had something to say :D.

Wife and I also are originally from metric system Countries, but after so many years we have been "converted" literally (except when we talk about weather, we need to see it in Celsius to know if we need a jacket ;))

BTW: I've always loved this when crossing to Canada:

Posted some calculations in the thread "5AT vs. 4AT much difference".

The numbers seem to tally with your values of 4200 RPM at 140 KmPH in 4th gear (of a 5AT).

Thanks for the feedback!

FWIW, I am primarily interested in a quieter ride; passing power and fuel economy are secondary for my needs: hauling two kids long and short distances, with occasionally Grandma driving (thus the Automatic).

Thanks for the info, but a bit unclear to me. Is the 4200/140/4th based on the 4AT or 4th gear in 5MT?

I think there was a post that listed the gear ratios for 4AT and 5AT, but I wouldn't know what to do the numbers.

Hey, I'm Scottish, I know what 60mph is - including conversion ;)

Given how diverse we are in this forum (Scottish, English, Dutch, Swedish, Canadians, Canadiens... US, Hong Kong, Imperial Gallons, Socialist Liters vs. Canadian Litres, left vs. right hand drive, light vs. heavy stones, Kilometers vs. Kilometres... ((lol2), oh shoot, it does not go that far)) I found a good place where to do fuel economy conversions:

And for speed too:

I hope it helps. I'll post it under the Real-world Mileage numbers thread as well...

Two questions about rear HVAC.

Is airflow adequate?

Do you get any heat at all?

The airflow is pretty good on 'High'

But - It is cool air only for the centre console vents! (You can see the text in the photos that I posted). The heating vents are only under the driver and front passenger seats, not the centre console.

This is probably worth a thread on it's own...

I picked up the Cargo Liner, as Mrs SparkyBhoy was intent on putting one stroller, complete with grubby wheels, in the trunk this afternoon. I was figuring on one up, along with roof crossbars from a Mazda online store, but oh well. The liner cost me $65 incl taxes (10% discount - woo, and indeed, hoo). I won't be paying the dealer price for the bars though.

When we sat down to go through the figures, they tabled $33,958 OTD. I said forget it (they got told where to stick the $600 'Documentation Fee'), we played games for a while and ended up after about 30 minutes agreeing on $32,014 - including GST, PST, various battery & tire Levy's (hey, B.C. stands for 'Bring Cash' remember).

I figure that they could have gotten it sold this weekend for sticker, plus all their 'add-ons' but I was the one sitting in their showroom on a wet Wednesday.

TBH I went in there with a figure of $32,131 as my OTD figure, and had based the down payment and monthly payments on that.

Happy guy.

K I bout choked when I skimmed n saw $32k for a MZ5... whats that in USD?

About 2 weeks ago it would have been $1,500US ;)

Seriously, they are about par at the moment, or close to it.

I don't know what individual US state taxes are like, but in BC we have both the Provincial and Federal tax - which is currently 13%. This adds a fair chunk of change onto the base cost of $28,435.

The sticker cost for the 08 GT, found on another forum, is as follows:

GT 5 Speed Manual - $24,815
Add Leather - $1,130
Add 5spd Automatic - $1,100
Add Freight - $1,390
Total - $28,435
Add Tax (13%) - $3,697
Total Sticker - $32,131

There are also a bunch of provincial fees for such things as A/C, battery, tires, etc that add on a few hundred $$$'s to the above price - with the 13% tacked on top of that as well. Tax on a tax -gotta love it.

Ok, let's just take your setting minus fees and taxes:
Mz5: $24,815
Leather : $1,130
Auto: $1,100$

Total: 27,045$

How come the same US configuration (GT) comes up to $22,365 with a dollar about on par with the US $ ?? It's more than 4 grands!!

We're still getting screwed by manufacturers up north or there is something I am missing. Not sure how both $ are trading for yens and i am too lazy to check it up, but it sucks!

At least the canadian model is available with the nav system... Was about time a "lower-end" car offer it!

The new interior looks more "chic"! As soon as my lease ends i'm gonna go full load with nav I think. Should make it about 34000$ with all taxes and fees :-/.

I apologize to the OP for being a bit OT, just wanted to let those know that I was interested in the pricing discrepancy between CDN and USA and have been following and posted to the thread over at Redflagdeals.

Anyways, after having done some research about importing a Mz5 from the USA, a couple of things have to be considered. One of the most important is ones liquidity. Even though there is an initial ~$4000 differential, after duty, taxes, and considering CDN financing or a loan to pay for the USA vehicle, the interest equalizes out the differential.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree that CDN's are getting the raw end of the deal from both sides, the government and the manufacturers.
