Picked up the MSM today.

You like the shifting?? When I test drove it, the shifter felt rubbery, like the neon's. I didn't like that at all. What's different about it?

Again, huh? I was surprised to find that it didn't feel any faster than the MSP at all, and you have to shift a lot more to get there.

Not that I didn't like the car, it's awesome, and exactly what the miata needed. The reasons I wouldn't trade aren't performance related, but that it's too small and has terrible blind spots and is too spendy for me. I just find it odd that you mention loving the two biggest dissapointments I had when testdriving one.

Sorry but I have to disagree with every point you made.

The shifter is incredible. The 6-spd Miata shifter (and the 5-spd) are highly regarded as two of the best ones around. I don't see how you can even compare it to the truck shifter (in height AND feel) of the Neon.

I drove it a little harder today, and it is a bunch quicker than a stock MSP. It might even be slightly faster than my (lightly modded) MSP (intake, hardpipes, 9psi)...but it is close. Unfortunately, I can't drive them both back to back.

I have no blind spot on the passenger side, and just a tiny one on the driver's side. Did you adjust the mirrors right?

Too spendy? I got mine for $21,000 out the door (tax and fees included). My payment only went up $40 a month. And that is mostly because I put $2K down on the MSP and only $500 on the MSM. If I put $2K down on the MSM, the payments would have been $7 a month more than my MSP.

Has anybody modified the MSM's yet? I don't like the shifting in the MSM and I don't like how the power output is low until the intake shifts over (around 5200rpm). Then the lowered the rev limit.

However I would love to have one with around 150 more hp.

Yes, Flyin' Miata has a few parts available, and Vishnu is working on applying the XEDE system for the MSM.

'Until the intake shifts over'? There's no VVT in the MSM.

vvt... variable valve timing?... I said intake changing over...

Yes, and I am willing to put money down on the fact that Mazda removed the VVT in the N/A Miata for the MSM.

Yeah I said intake changing over...not valve timing changes. Thanks.

Then what exactly do you mean? When I hear 'intake changing over' I think 'intake cam profile changing'

VICS... Variable (intake)inertia charge system. Tell me you don't feel that thing come alive at 5200...

I haven't looked at an MSM in awhile they are pcm controlled boost right? Figured out a way to get around it yet?

Ah, VICS. Misunderstood you. Yes there is a 'kick in the pants', I'm not sure of the exact RPM. I'm still breaking the engine in so I haven't beat on it (well, not TOO hard ;) ) But I did feel it on the MSM I test drove.

Yes, the PCM controls boost. People have gotten around it by simply removing the vacuum hoses from the boost control solenoid and putting an MBC or EBC solenoid in its place. You just have to keep the electrical connection to the stock solenoid or else it'll throw a CEL.

lol. I guess you wouldn't want to see me doing a pdi to them then.

I figured thats how people would do it. If I had one I would figuring out how to get that intake to switch over when I hit boost...hint...hint...

Well it's definitely shorter, but where the MSP shifter feels solid, the MSM shifter felt plasticky, like I could snap it off if I got too excited. Also, I liked that the 6sp means that it cruises at a little lower rpms at 80ish on the hwy, but it seemed like I was having to shift an awful lot, like the gear ratios in between were a bit too close. I like the ratios in the MSP a lot, I wish they'd make a 6sp with nearly the same gears for the first 5, and then make 6 like an overdrive gear. 3500rpm at 80 seems like a real gas waster, and I drive about 70 miles at that level every day. bah.

I did, and I was surprised, that the MSM seemed about the same. The review rag numbers all say the same. It certainly gets to each gear quicker, but of course it's a 6sp and a smaller motor.

Yes, I'm told it just takes some getting used to, but I couldn't help the feeling that I was gonna merge right into somebody, it was scary.

Holy s***! They were $27k firm when I looked! Was it used?? I think they wanted $25k for the *used* one I drove. (well used for one day)

Nope, brand new, 3 miles on the odometer ;)

Fun car for sure! I had a blast in one for a couple of days. The only problem is that there isn't quite enough leg room for me, and I'm only 5'10". I really is a go cart for the streets! So much fun.

If anyone wants a good price on a MazdaSpeed Miata, I just saw a red one on the showroom floor at Cook in Farmington, MI fo just under $20k. I guess they are having a hard time moving them.

i am 6'3" so i dont think i would be very comfortable in one, i like them with the hard top on, they look like little RX-7s

Jersey's almost got me convinced to go trade lol. The only thing that makes me hesitant about a 2 seater isn't my personal space since I fit in there pretty good but I'd miss the cargo space for sure.
