Before I go and buy cords and wiring, can I plug my phone in the aux port and use the speaker mode to hear and talk? I'm guessing I still would have to talk into the phone but would I hear it out of the car speakers?

Yes I have the Iphone 3g. I listen to music off it through the auxilary port. When a call comes in I can hear the caller over the car speakers. I have to talk through the phone of course like you said. It works well and is very clear.

That's a unique iPhone feature though. My blackberry curve can't do that for example. I would go with a dedicated install for total hands free myself. Try it though, what could it hurt?

You can do that with any phone that has the big socket to plug in the stereo cable. I have done it on my instinct and my friend has done it in his BB Bold and iPhone, Very useful if you drive with your windows up.

Update...

Picked up an adapter for the different sized plugs, plugged it into the aux port and could hear great but...couldn't talk on it. So much for that plan...
