PG Reworked turbo...worth the cost?

Just wondering if the reworked turbo that PG sells is worth the cost over just getting a regular stock turbo? Just for future knowledge...

Here's a dyno taken from PG's site. 9 whp / 9 wtq peak gain, and it doesn't die as quickly towards the top end.

The test car is evidently heavily modded

that wasn't so much a test car as it was a dyno showing the potential of the turbo. the gains are relative to what you have on the car this is true, but there is a bigger out of the box gain than 9hp per se.

the same car in that dyno put down ~370 hp on the dyno with this reworked turbo and ran consistent mid to high 12s in the quarter (12.7 was one of the last runs he quoted me). i find this impressive because he achieved these numbers and performance from a K04 sized unit and there are people with the GT series turbines who cannot achieve or struggle to achieve this. Granted there are a handful of ~400hp dynos out there, but for that extra 30hp you're talking alot more parts and tons more money than what was spent here.

for 90% of the people out there i really think the numbers of the reworked will be more than enough for their needs.

cool, just wondering for the future...hoping my turbo won't go before I decide to sell the car, but if it does I'll be looking to get a reworked one from PG.

+1, but then again, I'm not a "tuner". I have never, ever, modified a car for more performance.

I've said it before ... this is the most high performance car I've ever owned, right out o' the box. If I could justify the need for extra HP at current rate($500 for 30HP, $1000 for 50HP amiright?), I might but I don't see it. This car goes just good enough for me. Dare I say, faster than 95% of the cars on the road?

Was this on street tires or slicks? If I didn't have to give up the car's street manners for this kind of performance I would gladly upgrade to the worked K04 some day.

370whp will put you at mid/high 12s on aggressive street tires with a skilled driver. you aren't losing any real street manners with the reworked turbo like you would be going to bigger GT series.

So what are we talking for parts here? Reworked K04, SRI or CAI, a DP/RP, rear MM, and that's it? No AP or Standback required? How would this run with the stock TMIC?

the stock TMIC would be ok at stock boost levels. much higher above that i'd want to upgrade it so you aren't choking the turbo.

how difficult is it to take out the turbo? i've done the inlet side 3 times but how's the back side of it? I've thought about this mod a lot but want to make sure it's something realistic to install.

One of the guys I talk to down here is going to send the stock turbo he bought of this other guy and is going to send it in to PG to do this. So I look forward to seeing what they will do and how much of a difference it will make

Does PG offer shop services as well (as in, do you offer installs)? If so, how much OTD is the swap from stock to the reworked one, if PG keeps the old stock one?

370whp should be very close to an 11 sec car ! I went 12.8 on only 300hp. Who was this BTW? I never heard of anyone making that much power on his turbo. Most i heard was TIZI at juat under 350. Was it a ms3 or 6? I personally love this turbo. It no GT series but it performs.

yes we do, in fact we did that here for someone. the turbo is 619 for the part and labor. since we'd have the core right there i would not even bother with the charge/return. labor is $450 for the install.
